As it is generally the case with main city’s fine dining, the roads encircling the city are often left out. For those residing on the outskirts of the city have to drive in all the way in, fighting with the traffic to penetrate for a decent meal. A scenario that leaves much for desire. After Gurgaon started blooming and swelling into the city it has grown into today, many encircling roads were bestowed with the right kind of restaurants to satisfy the neighboring residents. Sohna Road in Gurgaon is one such case. This road used to be a lonely one until several skyscrapers rose to change the city’s skyline. Then came fabulous restaurants like ‘The Ancient Barbeque’ to turn the tables on main city’s diners. The restaurant is located at Good Earth City Center in Sector 50 and remains a busy place to dine throughout the week. The Ancient Barbeque is a proper family-style restaurant that believes in community, hence their buffets. The place is known for their exceptional buffets, which lures a crowd of large groups of diners constantly. Their spread is mainly made out of North Indian, Chinese and Continental delicacies, that seems to go down famously with their regulars. Another of their popular attractions is live grills on the tables that are later loaded up with all sorts of appetizers. To accompany your boozy drink nibble alongside on starters like, malai paneer tikka, red Thai chicken, coriander bhutta, fish in barbeque sauce, kesari soya chaap, tahini prawns and Awadhi mutton seekh. Main course is a heady selection of curries from all across India as well as pastas and oriental gravies. To give your tongue that burst of flavour dip into their smorgasbord of chutneys. Bhoot jholakhiya, amer achar, chotiya ki chutney, lahsoon ki chutney, aloo ki chutney or aam ka murabba takes your meal to whole new level. Enjoy a piece of dessert before wrapping up the meal. Mango phirni, ghewar, kesari rabri, fruit tart, doodhi halwa, mud cake and rasgulla sounds heavenly. They host live music nights and sports screenings to keep the interest alive. Interiors are designed very much to suit the tastes of diverse diners. An earthy color palette of warm brown shades are used to create the space. Inclusion of chandeliers and comfortable cushioned sofas elevates the dining experience. Sit next to the windows for a lovely view of the city. Not bad for a moderately priced place.
