If the cool whitewashed walls, pretty brass lighting and colour coordinated furniture look familiar at Immigrant Cafe, it is probably because space was La Bodega not too long ago. Some of the kitchen staff have stayed and recreate a few Mexican dishes for the menu. A closer look at which revealed dishes like the 'Pindi Donut', 'Butter Chicken Samosa' and 'Crab Phuchka' which left me slightly exasperated. How wrong I was! 'Tangy Pindi Chana' sealed inside freshly baked bread, not dissimilar to a Durban curry-bun. 'Creamy Butter Chicken' with the rounded sweetness of tomatoes packed inside a flaky 'Punjabi Samosa', 'Masaledaar Crab Sticks Stuffed In Crisp Puris' and topped with an intensely flavoured mint foam. Not only was the twist executed with technical astuteness and no flavour-compromise, but included little details like pairing the 'Donut' with 'Heeng Achar' and sliced 'Cocktail Onions'. 'Bistro-staple Lamb Sliders' put on a great show as well with deeply 'Caramelized Pulled Lamb' and a dab of 'Garlic Mayo With Yogurt'. The service is pretty good at pointing out the fun stuff.
