Do not let the modest size fool you. This not-much-larger-than-a-counter store is an icon among its patrons, some of whom have been visiting the place for decades. Though there are more than decent breads, cupcakes, red velvet cake, cheesecake and éclairs, the draw for the average punter is the corn pudding and the bitter chocolate cake. Both have been made since the bakery opened its doors. The corn pudding is a moist sponge with butter icing piped out to approximate an ear of corn, adorned with a marzipan sheath. Bitter chocolate cake is a dark-as-sin dense confection. Both these constitute a sizeable chunk of the sales.
