Restaurants Starting Afresh This New Year

It is the third week of the New Year and Mumbai is already buzzing with new eateries. Be it a ritzy glamorous nightclub or a new addition to everyone's favourite neighbourhood bar, this month has seen some noteworthy newbies and we have picked our favourites till date. 2017 promises to be an exciting year for eating out in Mumbai with plenty of new launches but till then, you can start with these trendy spots.

Woodside Inn - The third and latest outlet of this popular bar is in Todi Mills in Lower Parel and while it has the same warm familiar ambience, it is distinctly different from the other two outlets. The menu features some old Woodside Inn classics along with some new tweaked dishes such as their grilled octopus and prawn roll. The bar is equipped with many drinks and you can make your choice and this includes plenty of locally brewed beers on tap. It is one of the happiest places to kick back and enjoy a night out with friends.

Theory - This place opened its doors with a quiet launch just around Christmas but is currently the only restaurant we really love. Theory is located in Kamala Mills and its all black décor makes it incredibly sleek and sexy to dine here. The menu is a mix of interesting yet familiar dishes such as the superb prawn carpaccio or the softest lamb shanks presented very differently with a mix of flavours and textures that work well. The best thing on the menu is their tuna tartare. As the night progresses, Theory morphs into a superb, chic bar and is a great place to enjoy on weekends.

Su Casa - For a more casual and relaxed dining space, Bandra's newest addition at the Bombay Arts Society Building is Su Casa. The best part about this place is that it is away from the main spots in Bandra, making it quieter and it has a charming alfresco section full of plants that make you feel like you are not in the city. The food served here is European with lots of salads and small plates. Our pick would be the pan seared red snapper with dill couscous.

Matahaari - Apart from restaurants and cafés, this month saw the launch of a sprawling 7000 sq ft new nightclub that pays homage to the Dutch courtesan and spy. The club is located on the 4th floor of the almost deserted Atria Mall in Worli. The club is meant to look like its own boudoir, complete with black leather furniture, chandeliers and crystal pieces. Apart from a separate champagne bar, a staging area, which doubles up as the dance floor and private VIP enclosures, there is another secret lounge hidden behind a makeshift bookcase that includes a smoking lounge.
