Mumbai Does Not Always Burn Holes in Pockets

Bandra is considered to be one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in the city. It is always buzzing and full of restaurants, bars, clubs and cafés. You are always spoilt for choice when you are trying to make plans for a night out. While the choice is ample, the range of places within a decent budget is not. It would seem that going out to enjoy a couple of drinks at a bar has turned out to be an expensive affair. Bars are getting glitzier, cocktails are getting fancier and, despite having a great time, your wallet takes a good hit at the end of the night. However, Bandra has some very funky joints where you can have a great time, listen to good music and not feel like you have spent half your salary in one night. Here is our list of affordable places to grab a drink in Bandra.

Bonobo – One of Bandra’s popular spots, Bonobo with its rooftop open-air seating is where a lot of folks gather post work to grab a drink with friends. There is even an air-conditioned section that doubles up as a dance floor, but folks go here for the relaxed ambience, the food and decent pricing.

Quench – Tucked away in Bandra Reclamation, this bar is the perfect den for serious drinkers and music enthusiasts. The walls are covered with funky posters and artwork and the entire ambience here is laid-back and superbly casual. Quench is a typical no-frills bar, but the beers are affordable along with the food and you are assured of a good time with friends.

Doolally Taproom – These guys kick-started a movement for microbreweries. They have been brewing their own beers since 2009 in Pune and, now that they have decided to open a shop in Bandra, they have been incredibly popular. Their brews are all standard priced and there is even a small but satisfying food menu in case you are hungry. The free WIFI is a great draw during the day but, at night, it works as a casual yet friendly space to enjoy a couple of beers.

Toto’s Garage – Without a doubt, this tiny dingy spot is a local legend. For years, Toto’s Garage has been serving patrons and is crowded almost all nights of the week. The entire space makes you feel like you are in a rundown garage but, to many, it is a popular watering hole – mostly due to their casual approach, a long menu full of bar snacks and greasy treats, and that a night here would not cost you the earth.

Khar Social – It does not really count as Bandra, but it is just a hop skip and jump away and so reasonably priced that it is difficult not to include them in this list. This is part of a popular chain and is extremely funky with a great menu full of greasy treats that pair perfectly with alcohol. There are also full meals in case you are in the mood for something more and, along with their regular drinks, they make their own in-house cocktails. The place tends to fill up quickly, so we suggest get there early to snag a table.
