Restaurants serving the best breakfasts in South Mumbai

It is almost the end of the year and winter has officially arrived. For Mumbai that isn't saying much but it does mean that the weather is pleasant and the mornings are cool and crisp. It is the perfect season to start your day bright and early by tucking into a hearty breakfast. If you are dropping your kids off to school, grabbing a bite before work or perhaps killing two birds with one breakfast and knocking off a meeting over some eggs and hash browns then these are the restaurants to do it at.

Doolally Taproom

What is possibly the coolest most casual microbrewery in town is also one of the best places to grab breakfast. While it is packed to gills at night with beer flowing and music blaring, the mornings are actually peaceful and a lot of folks drop by to enjoy some quiet or get work done over a hot meal. There are five outlets across the city but all serve the same menu.

Dishes to order - The Breakfast Tacos ( it does not have any meat ) and the French Toast.

The restaurants serve breakfast from 7 am.

Bake House Cafe

This small inconspicuous little cafe in Kalaghoda has been attracting diners with their simple but consistently good food. It helps that it is not overly expensive and that the service is warm and swift. What is usually a very popular dinner spot especially on the weekends is surprisingly full in the mornings as well.

Dishes to order - The Cheddar Mushroom & Asparagus Omelet, The Sunrise Surprise Breakfast Tray and their Waffles.

The restaurant serves breakfast from 8 am.

Kyani & Co

Mumbai has so much to offer but the Irani cafes in South Mumbai are part of the city is a culinary treasure. What was once a trendy meeting joint to discuss politics and worldly affairs over a hot cup of tea and bread buns slathered with butter is still very much in trend. Every generation seems to find their own enjoyment of this old world charm and Kyani & Co has been one of the more popular Irani cafes. From Monday - Saturday the minute the shutters go up you will find Mumbaikers grabbing a rather inexpensive breakfast before they head off to tackle the day and why not, the food is still just as attractive.

Dishes to order - Kheema Gotala, Chai and Bun Maska, the Parsi Poro.

The restaurant serves breakfast from 7 am.

Pizza By The Bay

While a traditional Italian restaurant that is known for their pizzas might not seem like an obvious choice for breakfast this is a surprising hit.The menu has pages and pages dedicated to pizza and a rather small breakfast menu in comparison but each item is well worth your time, money and calories. The location is superb as you sit outside facing the gorgeous view of the sea and the city skyline on Marine drive. With that stunning view and delicious food, it is a winning combination for a great breakfast joint.

Dishes to order - The Health In A Bowl, Eggs Florentine, their Flakey Croissants or even the jumpstart Oatmeal Porridge.

The restaurant serves breakfast from 7 am.

Cafe Mondegar

Without a doubt, this popular cafe has the best decor in the neighbourhood. Not every restaurant can boast of its walls being covered in drawings by the famous Mario Miranda. An iconic restaurant in its own right, one of the very first to have a jukebox and its own line of signature merchandise but it is been a rite of passage for most college kids in south Mumbai that have spent a lot of time here. While you would think people only come here for the beer, it is actually a very popular spot for breakfast and the food is economical and filling.

Dishes to order - The Crepes, Pancakes and their special Kheema Gotla.

The restaurant serves breakfast from 7 am
