Best Pizza Places in Mumbai

Italians are known for their incredible contribution to art, architecture and history. Personally, I think their greatest contribution to the world is their culinary one. More than any other dish, it is their pizza that is universally loved. The American Italians made is so famous that you now get your choice of pizza at almost every restaurant. Mumbai has plenty of pizza joints – some good, some bad and some terribly ugly. While it is a personal choice, we picked a few places across the city that we know will not let you down.

Crave – While this is a more casual spot to grab a bite, do not underestimate the deliciousness that is served at Crave. With two outlets in the city, they serve burgers, sandwiches and pizzas. While there is a lot of pizza to choose from, the most incredible one is their Bacon of Hope, which has ham, bacon, onion and paprika. The Italian job with prosciutto and arugula is another winner, but their Meat You In The Middle with lamb bolognese, jalapenos, onion and basil (without a shred of tomato or sauce) is my personal favourite. They also have seasonal pizzas and, at the moment, are showcasing two interesting ones that are made with bacon jam.

Serafina – This Italian restaurant is known for its massive portions and ever since this New York chain made an entry into the city, people have been flocking there to indulge in their pizzas. The most impressive of the lot is their famous Tartufo Nero, or what is commonly called the truffle pizza, which includes truffle cheese, truffle oil and sliced black truffles. It is slightly pricy but absolutely worth it. If you really enjoy your cheese, then their exquisite four cheese or Formagi D’Italia is what you should order.

Joey’s Pizza – For most folks that live in the suburbs, the only pizza that ever matters is the wildly popular Meat Ultimo from Joey’s Pizza. Not sure if the place is named after the popular character on the TV show F.R.I.E.N.D.S for his love for pizza, but they do follow in his footsteps and take their pizza very seriously. This one is a meat lover’s delight, as it comes loaded with cheese and meats and is definitely a pizza worth trying. Sadly, they have one outlet and do not deliver all over the city, so you need to be in their radius but it is worth the effort.

PizzaExpress – This pizza giant all the way from London has created such an impact with diners in the city that it has opened three massive outlets across town, Bandra and Andheri. Each one is packed to the gills almost all the time, which just shows you how popular their pizza is. While there is enough choice, the calabrese is their most unique pizza and it is delicious. It comes with plenty of ingredients that include spicy sausage, red onions, red and yellow peppers, jalapenos, baby mozzarella and rocket.

Trattoria – This Italian-themed restaurant is practically a legend in the city. Many have come here for meals and even late-night nibbles and always left satisfied. Trattoria serves wonderful pasta and main course dishes, but it really is their pizza menu that shines. The Misto Mare, or more commonly called the seafood pizza, is pure indulgence and one of their very best ones.
