Food trends always seem to be either incredibly bizarre like the Starbuck unicorn frappe or then surprisingly simple like the beloved avocado toast. Either way, once it starts trending it becomes so popular that people eat just that for a significant amount of time. The latest craze seems to be meals eaten in a bowl. Buddha Bowls which are generally plant based meals served in a bowl is what most seem to crave but any meal, hot or cold, protein or vegetable based eaten out of a bowl is what Mumbaikars seem to be currently enjoying the most. Here are some of our favourite meals across the city that come in a bowl.
Buddha Bowl – This takeaway spot in Bandra is dedicated to the trendy Buddha Bowl but they offer a variety of bowls that include meat, noodles and rice. You can even pick a ramen or sushi bowl. The upside to ordering this bowl meal is that each bowl is a balanced meal and is very filling. Our favourites include the Laksa Bowl and the Som Tam Bowl.
Bowl Baby Bowl – The boys behind Cafe Nemo, Bonobo and Jam Jar diner have opened a new takeaway spot dedicated to their famous Seoul Bowls that were once a rage at Cafe Nemo. Of course, the Seoul Bowl features on the menu but their Bibimbap Bowl, Nasi Goreng Bowl and the Bahn Mi Bowl are fantastic. If the rice and noodle are too much you can even opt for a simpler salad bowl or continue with the carbs and try one of their Pasta bowls.
Hello Guppy – This quirky Japanese restaurant is a great place for sushi but the star of the menu according to us is their Donburi selection. These Japanese Rice Bowls come filled with a meat of your choice (the Grilled Tenderloin is beautiful) and vegetables and is a meal in itself. Alternatively, you could open for one of their Ramen Bowls which come with egg noodles, a meat based broth, miso and the protein of your choice.
Mamagoto – When you think of bowl based meals, it is mostly Asian inspired ones. Mamagoto has an extensive menu full of small plates and large but their signature dishes are all either noodle or rice based and come in a bowl. Mama's Spicy Ramen Bowl, Saigon Bowl, Mamagoto's Chicken Broth for the hungry soul, Chiang Mai Train Station Noodles - all cheeky names for some great bowl based meals. In addition, you could also get a bowl full of curry which is served along with rice. The Masaman Curry is our favourite.
