Top 3 Sunday Farmers’ Markets In Delhi NCR
These 3 Sunday Farmers’ Markets In NCR Will Steal Your Heart
03 Aug, 2017 by Ruchira HoonIf you are sort of an early bird and are finding ways to make the best use of Sunday mornings, then this is for you. Delhi NCR has three amazing farmers’ markets that are just waiting to be explored. From South Delhi to Central Delhi to Gurgaon - it does not matter which part of Delhi NCR you are in – because there is something within the reach of everyone.
Let us start with what you are looking at finding at these markets. From gluten-free flours such as raw banana flour or amaranth flour to irregularly shaped vegetables freshly pulled out the night before to green leafy produce that coaxes you into buying the moment you lay your eyes on them, it is truly a delight for shoppers who love their food. Plus you will find people whipping up delicacies with the produce right in front of your eyes and you can also get to sample some ready-to-eat all natural treats.
So how should you chart your map? You can, at best, do two markets on one Sunday, only because of how distant they are from each other. But for a complete experience, I’d recommend spreading your trips across three weeks, if not at least two. Oh and take your shopping bag with you from home.
Where: The Earth’s Collective
At: Community Hall, Asiad Games Village
Time: 8.30 am to 11 am
What: Organised by Meenu Nageshwaran - healer and a plant-based chef, this market is a place for all things natural. Consisting of about 10 stalls every week, this market is an amazing array of products including micro greens, fresh vegetables and plenty of organic grains and seeds. You also have the option of eating breakfast here, as people put up traditional delicacies such as Bajre ki Roti and Saag, Dosa with chutney and Pontha Baath to eat.
Top Picks: The 100 percent organic Gur Roti made in organic desi ghee. Coconut Face Wash and Spirulina.
Where: Delhi Organic Farmer’s Market
At: Aqua, The Park Hotel, Connaught Place
Time: 9 am to 11.30 am
What: The brain child of Tijarawala Farms’ Sneh Yadav, this organic market is purely farmer driven. The produce changes with every season but there is so much to choose from. In fact, regulars even call up to reserve their order, so they can pick it up later that morning. Fresh basil, poi saag, Agastya saag are just some of the interesting produce available. Coupled with fresh fruits and lots of different organic cheeses, this is a sight for sore eyes. You can also buy organic mixes such as energy bars, granolas and laddoos.
Top Picks: Ricotta Cheese and the Turmeric Latte Milk and all the green leafy vegetables possible.
Where: Gurgaon Organic Farmers’ Market
At: Rajiv Gandhi Renewable Energy Park, Roots Café, Sector 29, Gurugram
Time: 9 am to 12 noon
What: Committed to raising awareness about pesticide and chemical free produce, here is where you can meet real farmers, producers and retailers who truly care about going organic which has been verified by the GOFM. Run by Manas Arvind, it is the largest farmers’ market in Delhi NCR. Apart from just-picked vegetables, you can also find fresh millets, vegan snacks and seeds which are ready to be planted. You can also eat breakfast here – Kadhi Chawal for one and a steaming hot bowl of Thukpa otherwise.
Top Picks: Pulses and pickles that need to be picked up as soon as you go in.
