Mediterranean cuisine is known all over the world for its vibrant and zesty flavour. The cuisine first became known to us with the arrival of delicious shawarmas on the global dining scene and slowly waded its way into the pattern of our Indian culinary scene effortlessly. Goa too has not remained untouched by the delights of this fantastic cuisine and responded in sorts by welcoming numerous Mediterranean restaurants in its fold. There are some truly marvellous restaurants and bistros focusing on Mediterranean cuisine in various parts of the city. One of the most beautiful and scenic dining destinations in Goa for Mediterranean is ‘Izgara’, located on the rooftop of Acacia hotel in Bardez. Along with an amazing view of Arabian Sea diners get to feast on kibbeh, Moroccan pizza and falafel.
Another corner of tranquillity can be found at ‘Tamarin Mediterranean Bistro Lounge’ in Calangute. Laid out in a lovely garden, the bistro is ideal for a quiet brunch or a first date. Just like the intensity of Sirocco winds, The Lalit’s Mediterranean take ‘Sirocco’ is a culinary revelation. Within a Portuguese-Goan décor they serve lip-smacking Mediterranean fare for what we find, expensive prices. ‘Vero Cibo’ takes you by an utter surprise with its very pleasing and upbeat décor, set in gorgeous green fields of Candolim. Their menu span across Greece, Spain and Turkey, available for moderate prices. Within touching distance of the sea is Panaji’s Mediterranean wonder ‘Bay 15’, a charming lounge like restaurant, which comes with a breezy outdoor section and peppy live music. Couples swear by its gorgeous sunset view as the added attraction.
‘Café Azul’ of Cidade de Goa, Panaji is a delightful getaway decked with pleasing hues of blue and white, entirely complimentary with poolside view and the sea crashing nearby. Menu is a little expensive but offers a wonderful range into Mediterranean cuisine. Alila Diwa’s ‘Bistro’ takes your breath away with its stunning location and enchanting design. Housed in a veranda wrapped around a garden, Bistro is a romantic outdoor restaurant with a lavish Mediterranean and Middle-Eastern menu. ‘Angaara’ of Silver Sands Holiday Village, is spread outdoors in shape of quaint canopies. The menu is totally affordable and leans heavily on seafood. Stop by for a breakfast before heading towards the beach. ‘Rockfish’ on Baga Beach remains open throughout the day and carries a seafood dominated Mediterranean menu which, comes for a little pricey tag.
