Genuine Broaster Chicken is a rather atypical eatery that’ is surprisingly difficult to describe in a sentence. The name hints at a fried-chicken fast food restaurant. And, that is somewhat correct. GBC is a subsidiary of Broaster Company with presence in 36 countries. Its claim to fame is the proprietary broasting technique that deep-fries chicken at a high pressure to improve cooking speed and crispiness while reducing oil absorption. However, GBC is not a QSR (quick service restaurant). Everything is cooked on order, so do not expect the food to arrive in a couple of minutes. The restaurant is modelled on quintessential American diners and décor boasts of a level of sophistication that is seldom found in fast food chains. Fried Chicken is available in 3 avatars – with bone, boneless strips, and wings. Each comes with a choice of marinades and sauces. The original GBC marinade is available only with wings, but it was the 'Hot Masala Boneless Chicken Thigh' with a desi marinade that I relished the most. While fried chicken is the highlight at GBC, it occupies only a single page on the 19-page menu. There is 'Fries', 'Tornados', and 'Poutines'. There is 'Samosa', 'Kebabs', and 'Wraps'. There is even 'Khichdi', 'Curries', 'Steaks', and 'Feak Shakes'! The main course features some delightful surprises, such as the succulent and aromatic peppery 'Grilled Chicken' and the vibrant 'Ghotala Khichdi'; however, the 'Pasta', 'Rice Bowls' and 'Curries' are passable. Ultimately, it is the fried chicken, poutines, and burgers that will tempt you to come back for more.
