If it is Bengali, then the top recall is 6 Ballygunje Place. After their revamp a couple of years back, they have taken the decor a few notches higher. Black and white checkered floor tiles, green wooden beams, reproduction of rural art and large hand fans from the yore; this place is a visual delight as you enter it and experience it over your time spent while dining. With an exquisite a la carte menu, the food is all about giving the best of Bengali cuisine to the diners. The a la carte menu is just too long and if you are confused about what to order, you may go for the buffet which, more or less covers the best of their dishes. 'Narkel Postor Bora' is a brilliant starter where the coconut is finely grated with the poppy seed paste and has a sweet and earthy balance in the mouth with the grainy texture of the poppy seed. 'Kosha Mangsho' is definitely one of the best that you will find in the city - not overly spicy but correctly balanced with a thick sauce. During the Hilsa festival, they serve some classics and some very unique hilsa dishes which are worth trying.
I had booked 6 Ballygunge Place Catering service for my wedding which was in April this year, as I have always been a fan of 6 Ballygunge Place delicacies served at the restaurant. I am really thankful to 6 Ballygunge Place for the awesome service and food at my wedding. Each and every invitee of mine had praised their arrangements starting from their well behaved boys to the lip smacking delicacies. The grilled fish and the biriyani were the superstar amongst the others. Desserts were prepared live and served piping hot. In a nutshell I would definitely suggest 6 Ballygunge Place Catering services for your special day.
Typical bengali food... good taste , truly authentic with excellent service given by staff and met our expectations
Since a couple of locals highly recommended this restaurant for "authentic Bengali food" we decided to give it a try during a recent visit to Kolkata. Although the food was nice, I can't rave about it. What's more, they don't serve alcohol. So if like me, you enjoy a "drink" with your meal, 6 Ballygunge Place is not for you.
I hv visited this place along with my family after hearing tons of great reviews from my friends and over online. We had taken buffet lunch. I really liked the taste of food served. Fish & prawn was out standing. But, variety of food served was too less. The price i paid for this approx 900 bucks per person, which i felt overpriced for that much variety. I would love to visit again and will try plate dishes.
Visited 6 Ballygunge place after hearing great things from my friends from Kolkata. Had very high expectations from the place. I would say they are partially met. I ordered two signature dishes The Fish Fry and Kasha Mangsho. The fish was one of the best I have tasted in Kolkata. But Kasha Mangsho left me a little disappointed. Although the gravy and flavors were just perfect, but the meat used was a partially tender and partially really hard and chewey. The decor of the place was really artistic and had a very typical bangali feel to it which I really loved. The service was average. I was attended after 4-5 minutes of wait even though the restaurant was not full or crowded and there were ample waiters. Finally, I felt the place to be a little overpriced for the food and service. I ended up paying a 1000 bucks for a starter and mancourse. All in all I would still rate it 4/5. Would love to come again and try a few more dishes.
