It is a bit difficult to find location since the restaurant is tucked away inside a small lane near Keyatala. However, once inside, you instantly hit by a calm and serene atmosphere which automatically raises your expectation. Lime green and white colours with simplistic furniture and PDR separated with shimmer curtain, is what can describe this place. Just like the decor, the menu too is very straightforward and uncomplicated. 'Malai Salli Kebab Chicken' comes in skewers and is coated in a thin egg batter. 'Dal Chawal Palidu Mutton or Chicken' is a layered dream. A plate of rice layered with thick dal and mutton and loaded with caramelised onions served alongside a bowl on dal cooked with the drumstick is a multitude of flavours and textures in your mouth - a very favourable experience.
Possibly the only place in Kol that serves Bohri cuisine - this is what made me visit the restaurant with full family in tow. Simple decor, nice ambiance, attentive service, tasteful food, reasonable prices. If only the quantity was a bit more. Had the mutton masoor pulao and mutton nihari, both of which were good. The burhani raita was a turnoff though. They even have a special "Thal" for 5 people, but this needs to be pre-ordered. Look forward to trying it someday, as also the Haleem which was not available during my visit.
We were interested in having Bohri food, and Salt is possibly the only outlet in Kolkata serving such food. It is a very small and cosy outlet in the road just opposite Nazrul MAncha. Although the zomato map was slightly wrong (showing Salt on teh right hand side) it was easily located. We had salli malai kebab, halim and mutton masoor pulao. The kabab was very tasty, served with a nice tomato chutney, Halim was also great; we had it with Tandoori roti. Made of atta, the roti was very soft. Masoor pulao was served with burhani. The latter was a disappointment. The masoor pulao had the smell of ghee, and is surpisingly light. As dessert we had kaju pak, baked kaju halwa. This was also unusual and not overly sweet. The food was well cooked, had its individual features and was very light. It is also pocket friendly. Our only complaints are that the pieces of mutton in the pulao are too little, and the burhani was too thin and smelled a bit.
Went to this restaurant during the Christmas and New Year time with my family and friends. The ambience is very nice with its green and white decor on the inside. The food is absolutely superb. We tried quite a number of different cuisines on offer and could not find fault with even one of them. The staff are very friendly and obliging and went out of their way to help us choose from the menu. Above all the kitchen is spotless, which is rare in Kolkata. Thanks
SALT , as the name suggests, is the essential component in a foodies life. A magnificent decor, very different from others, welcomes you to this restaurant. The choice of green exudes warmth just as its staff . The smiling and gracious greetings are inviting...it's not a typical ' Good evening Maam/ Sir' type. We had heard of their Tandoori cuisine but we we wanted to be daring and thus chose their Bohri cusine. Trust me, memories were truly made there. An evening which was thoroughly enjoyed . We ordered for awesome Samosa mutton and the delicious Malai Salli Kebab chicken as starters. This was followed by the mouth watering Mutton Masoor Pulao and Sarki and we ordered for Bhurani separately. Lastly, the perfect Date Halwa and the Sitaphal Creamy delight were the choicest desserts that I have had in a long time. Assure people that this all owned Ladies venture is a path breaking one , certainly in Kolkata. Kudos to the entire Salt team ...will surely be back. Most recommended place and the prices are well within the budget.
