The location is fantastic, just a few metres from City Centre 1 in Salt Lake, which gives it an advantage of plenty of office-goers in the area looking for a quick dining option, especially for lunch. The interior has a lavish look which tends to move towards a bit tacky. They serve a decent buffet for lunch as well as dinner which are seemingly reasonable. The food is more or less satisfactory but their breakfast stands out. 'Kachori or Poori with Alu Dum' is a great way to start your day. The food from the a la carte menu tastes better than the buffet, however, it is not as reasonably priced as the buffet.
It was Doshomi night during Durga Puja in Kolkata. Time was 2.30 am and we were really tired running around from one hotel to another looking for dinner. Most of the hotels and restaurants were either heavily crowded or had no parking space or was about to shut down. Just when I was losing all hope, Sand happened. Sand is located on the 1st floor of De Sovrani hotel near Salt lake sector 1. We were really surprised to see this restaurant fully active this late. Service staffs were very helpful and always had a smile on their face while taking orders and during our interactions. There was Bengali Buffet which was on going, but we did not opt for that and choose to have Chinese instead. Check out the Food ratings below : MUST HAVE FOOD : * Prawns Tempura (5/5) * Chilli Basil Prawn (4/5) * Hunan Chicken (5/5) * Wok Fried Rice Mixed meat (5/5) * lime Soda (3/5) Would love to come to this place on my next Kolkata Visit.
I went here for dinner with family on a weekend. Someone mentioned that this is a good place for food. This is among the worst restaurants I have ever been to. The service is pathetic, the food well below average, and prices are just atrocious. One plain tandoori Roti costs Rs. 85, and you can get far better rotis for Rs. 15 in simple places. If you need to dine, this should be the last place on your list.
I went there for the morning breakfast buffet and the spread was huge and most of the items were done in a south indian style, which I liked. It's located on the first floor of the De Sovrani Hotel. All the items were delicious other then the French Toast and the Lassi which were pathetic. The restaurant had a very nice decor and the service was also good.
My fave restaurant for breakfast in Salt Lake, Kolkata. The spread is huge and scrumptious- south Indian, north indian, continental, sensuous sweets and pretty pastries- you are spoilt for choice. The service is excellent and the large windows provides beautiful vistas of rain and swaying Gulmohar trees!! Enjoy your breakfast!
Had dinner here as I am currently staying at De Sovrani Hotel. The hotel I will review in a separate post. The restaurant looks a bit rundown and there's nothing special about it, just some place for food which you can find everywhere. Staff is attentive and friendly. I had Murgh Makhani with garlic naan which was really good. But along with two Kingfisher I have been charged much more than expected (okay, I could have checked in the menu for the beer before, but considering the location it seems to be really overpriced). My breakfast experience with Sand will be shared in my hotel review as well.
