I'm not sure that ITC's management agrees with me but I think that Dakshin, as a concept, is past its sell-by date. The Dakshin Coastal, a re-tweaking of the original concept, marks an improvement but I don't think it goes far enough. That said, the food, drawn from the Southern states, can be excellent. Individual dishes, such as the pandi curry from Coorg or the spicy Andhra biryani are well-executed and it is hard to eat badly here. Even the room has a certain functional elegance and the service is good. It's just the concept of an old-fashioned greatest-hits-of-South-India that I don't like.
