Zorawar Kalra has found great success in Mumbai with his Masala Library, the city’s hardest restaurant to get into. He has now extended that principle to the bar space with this modern drinking place with a wonderful view of the Arabian Sea off the coast of Bandra. The idea is to offer new world-new age cocktails in beautiful surroundings and the bar-tenders (sorry, they like to be called mixologists these days) specialise in drinks that use high-tech methods to create foams, airs and distillations that sometimes defy belief. But there is serious food also, overseen by Kalra himself and Sourabh Udinia, the group’s star chef. This makes it a great place for anyone who can’t get a place at Masala Library and still wants to try the cuisine.
To give your palate an acquired taste you should give the new-found fancy bars a shot as they bring in a revolutionised face of gastronomy. Dapper looking mixologists, or as they prefer to be called, turn out sensational tricky-looking drinks for your pleasure. Even the way they present their creations is worth instagramming. No longer is drinking about mixing different solutions to create one delicious glass of concoction, it has taken a life of its own by becoming molecular. And what better person to drag the gastronomy industry into 21st century than legendary Zorawar Kalra. After creating a major gastronomy storm in Delhi and Mumbai with Farzi Café and Masala Library, he has turned his sights towards the bar sphere. His ‘MasalaBar’ at Carter Road, Mumbai is a space where booze and food crosses all conventional threshold creating a niche of its own.
As hard it is to bag a table at Masala Library, it is equally difficult to achieve the same wonder at MasalaBar. Within a short time of its opening, the bar has instantly risen on the trendy charts, welcoming its punters with an unbelievable selection of drinks. Molecular touch is used to lift the classic drinks and crafting a few terrific ones on their own. Mixologists know their craft well and leave no stone unturned to mesmerize you and impress you. To give the bar menu company, they offer Asian and European tit-bits. Start your night with their signature concoctions, following them with appetizers like, bruschetta, palak patta tacos, mahabaleshwar chilli poppers, carbon pao-bhaji, chicken tikka basilica and duck & kimchi mandu. Second course suggests, lamb goulash, asparagus & bok choy biryani, butter chicken with fenugreek disc, tori katsu kari and yellow curry risotto.
Final dessert course offers the same excitement as the rest of the menu. Be amazed by, dark allurement, drooling red velvet bars, bailey’s lollipops, chocolate cappuccino peanut butter pie and mango cardamom cheesecake. Evening is the best time to visit MasalaBar, if you truly want to be dazzled. As the sun sets the entire space is lit by several lanterns, taking your breath away with its romantic and spectacular atmosphere. MasalaBar thrives on mood lighting. Its gorgeous ambience sought after by the couples especially. Indoors glow with thousand lights and Arabian Sea rumbles in the distance filling the background with the sound of waves and upbeat music.
