INSIDER TIPS

  • The fodnichi poli, a dish made with shredded rotis, is an example of how food was never wasted in Maharashtrian houses. This dish is not usually found in restaurants but Potoba offers it
  • The amrakhand here, mango Shrikhand, has a rough, choppy texture reminiscent of home-made stuff different from the smooth synthetic mass produced ones
  • The masalas used for the Maharashtrian dishes in Potoba are brought in from Pune and the owner says that these are based on his mother’s recipes

Kalyan Speaks

3.7 /5

This Pune-based restaurant chain originally opened near Mumbai University’s Kalina campus in Mumbai and has spread to a few more branches since. The seating is Spartan and the outlets are usually crowded. The prices are fairly reasonable which makes the place popular. This is a vegetarian chain. It is one of the very few newly-opened restaurants in Mumbai to offer Maharashtrian food. The Maharashtrian food is of the Puneri style from Pune, the erstwhile capital of Maharashtra. They also offer Punjabi, South Indian and Chinese and don’t be surprised to see more people eating these than the Maharashtrian dishes. Potoba means ‘pet pooja’ or feast in Marathi.
