This and its sister restaurant China Kitchen at Delhi's Hyatt Regency were launched at roughly the same time by a Singaporean Chinese chef who worked for Hyatt on the mainland. The idea was to compile a list of Chinese food's greatest hits which would be cooked by chefs flown in from the mainland. While Delhi's China Kitchen stuck to the food focus and is now Delhi's best Chinese restaurant, the Bombay restaurant also added a floor with a loungey, clubby feel. As always happens in such cases, the lounge-types found somewhere hipper and trendier to go and the lounge-part began to seem dead and past it. This would not have mattered if China House had focussed on the food as well. But it has not kept up with its Delhi counterpart and while you can't eat badly, you do not always eat very well.

China House was opened with an idea to house the greatest hits of traditional Chinese cuisine, which it does beautifully. The kitchen is spearheaded by a team of native Chinese chefs bought over from Chinese provinces to give the food an authentic genuine flavour. Peking Duck is the restaurant’s most popular dish and deserves to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace sans the pancakes. The variety is endless starting with a plethora of delectable appetizers such as, water chestnuts dumplings, ‘Xin Jiang’ pancake filled with sautéed lamb, pot-sticker filled with glass noodles, chicken & wood ear mushroom soup, crispy prawn spring roll, lotus root fritters and crispy dee-fried cuttlefish with lettuce. Next comes the main course, which entails, clay pot chicken, wok tossed XO prawns, crispy squid with celery bell peppers, wok tossed white pumpkin & chilli, BBQ pork fried rice, traditional poached basa and beggar’s chicken.
Finish with a true Chinese style with rich memorable sweet course of, deep-fried banana coconut ice-cream, Chinese mango pudding, orange crème brulee and jasmine tea-ramisu served with orange vanilla ice-cream. China House redefines elegance through its magnificent décor. A generously vast dining room done in dark grey and wooden tones is uplifted visually through clever lighting and eye-catching shelves of traditional Chinese pottery. The two best spots in the house is right next to the wine library or in their enchanting outdoor space designed in traditional Chinese way. The interiors are sophisticated and affluent, making it an ideal place to bring an important client or someone you want to razzle and dazzle.
