RISO is in line with other popular restaurants in Lower Parel bang opposite the Palladium Mall and much like all those restaurants, this one too is strictly vegetarian. The décor is simple yet tasteful with wooden furniture and a couple of couch tables making this a casual comfortable dining spot. While it looks deceptively casual, it is not exactly an inexpensive restaurant. The cuisine served here is Italian, so expect a lot of cheese heavy dishes.
The vegetarian version of Italian food has really turned our heads around as our palate is more used to chicken in our raviolis. But the city crowd seems to be liking it a lot because we can compromise on our chicken or prosciutto but not on the sauce. The vegetarian version of Italian restaurants are paying deep attention to the sauces and crusts and try to make things interesting by playing with toppings. We can say for ourselves that we are definitely not disappointed. In the long row of these sort of restaurants one place stands out, ‘RISO’. It is one of the few places that serves lovely Italian food at affordable prices. The Jain community usually ends up having conventional Indian fare but RISO presents them with a wonderful opportunity to indulge in global cuisine. Even after being strictly vegetarian, the restaurant does not lose onto the clientele.
The popularity of RISO qualifies the restaurant for a renowned chain of restaurants but it ends up having only two outlets – Lower Parel and Vashi. Lower Parel is a much more stylish and popular branch than its Vashi counterpart but who is complaining. Its simple yet attractive interiors stand RISO in the line of highly trendy restaurants. A roomy hall like space is dominated by low-hung wooden beams. One end of the room is flanked by a row of high-backed sofas in soft teal colour while the central area is decked up with comfortable formal tables. Lighting is kept dim to enhance the cosy atmosphere. The vibe of RISO is casual, intimate, rustic and laid back. Although its surrounded by some amazing food joints, RISO manages to hold its own ground through good food and easy ambience.
RISO is famous for its Italian menu which comes in strict vegetarian version but for those who want to dabble in the other fare will find a handful of Mexican dishes on the menu too. It is wise to start exploring the menu via appetizers. On offer are, zuppa di pomodoro, funghi trifolati, potato merino, masala garlic bread, caprese salad, jalapeño sticks, stuffed cottage cheese and spinach pockets and parmesan twisty. Mexican menu throws in some yummy appetizers too which will bring a spicy change. For mains, pick on pizza, orecchiette al broccoli, pasta donatella, masala mafia, pasta in saffron sauce, créspelle, spuma and cannelloni alla Florentine. The menu is delightful and brimming with surprises.
