This is the city's first ever South Indian inspired bar. The name is a fun play on Sambhar and this bar is colourful, vibrant and has a general fun vibe to it. There is an indoor and outdoor space, both decorated with bright colourful chairs and funky paintings of kathakali dancers. If you are a purist and expect traditional food like you would at say a Ram Ashray or Café Madras, then you are in the wrong spot. Everything from the drinks to the food is a served with a twist, such as the margarita pizza with an injipuli sauce or the anna colada, which has pineapple juice and coconut water.
Wanted to visit this place since a while. When I finally got a chance to visit SamBar. The Experience was terrible. The restaurant is located near Khar Education Society. It was Saturday night I was with my friend, we wanted to gulp couple of pegs down before we could hit a nearby club. So we decided to visit the place cos the place looked cool..also cos they were listed for 2+2 drinks offer on Zomato Gold. We entered around 12 am in the night. DJ was playing Bollywood music. We felt good vibes.... till the time server named Niranjan attended our table. I Unlocked the Zomato Gold and showed it to him. The guy noted the code and asked us to wait to place the order.. we were cool. He came back to the table and he asked us to show our Zomato Profile and scroll it.. maybe cos they could validate our identity. I can understand the need .. but the approach was very unprofessional. It was similar to a cop asking you to stop the bike and show them Bike Papers at a Check Post . We felt very unwelcomed. Come on!! The Owner/Management needs to know that we pay for Gold Membership and we would obviously pay the bill and we aren't gonna order for free Booze/Food. Servers didn't care.. After ordering drinks, our table was unattended for a while. We wanted to leave as soon as possible. To add up to that. Server Niranjan came to our Table with a Card machine as I wanted to make a card payment. I gave him my Amex Card.. and the guy rudely said they don't accept Amex . I had all possible means to pay the bill. Then I chose to pay with my Visa Card . He swiped the card asked if I need the customers copy for the transaction ? I said no! He threw the card on the table and he left. Maybe the guy was having a bad day.. but that doesn't mean he will behave with the customers like that. There is no reason I would be visiting this place again. and will NOT RECOMMEND!! my friends/followers to go there.
must confess - SamBar is my most recent favourite find. I was here for a review and fell in love with it. SamBar is not just a place where you can enjoy great food, it is also a place which serves some great cocktails and mocktails and one can totally let their hair down on a Saturday evening and party! Tried the following drinks and couldnt really find anything wrong with any of them. Just about perfect: NutJob Awesome Payasam Litchi Elaichi Curry Martiini: This one is a must try, can blow your mind Anna Colada Capi Madras Rasam Mary Chill Madi Santra Tantra Fruity Kutty Rajini LIIT As far as the food goes, this is a total HEAVEN! Everything that I tried from the mutton to the chicken to the fish was just SOUL SATISFYING! We tried the followng: Gunpwder Fries Chettinad Idli Chicken Paniyaram: Another must have Kori Roast: A must have Kori Churuttu Chettinad Meen Urundai Meen Pollichattu Prawns Koliwada Sausage Pizza Vindaloo Chicken Burger Mutton Sukka with Appam Loved each and every bit of my time here - right from the food to the drinks to the company. This place is a MUST MUST MUST MUST VISIT!
Location of this place is not in the prime area, hence it's hard to reach if you are not familiar to that place. Food quality was okay. Other services like bar menu etc was good.
The place was in shambles when we arrived but still thought the food would be good, on ordering a couple of dishes we realised the service was slow and the waiters were extremely rude, the alcohol was adulterated which we didn’t expect at all. Never returning back to this place
The only reason why I visited the place is because I LOVED the earlier establishments which existed in the same spot, Loca Loca & WTF. And SamBar does NOT live up to the expectations. They offer quirky takes on South Indian Food dishes which fails to be good South Indian Food OR innovative inventions. We tried 4 different starters and only like the French Fries, which if anyone gets wrong should go take a swim! The alcohol was decent priced, the food wasn't that great and the ambience isn't as nice as Loca Loca /WTF was. (Sorry, still hung up on them)
