The Spare Kitchen

We are forever on the lookout for a place to let our hair down and chill out in the company of our friends. We are lucky enough to be in Mumbai, which plays host to some of the most attractive pubs and restaurants. Amongst the glittery spread is couple of places that draws our attention immediately. One of them is ‘The Spare Kitchen’, a hip cozy corner designed for friends to get together and have some fun. The magic of Spare Kitchen lies not only in its food but in its trendy decor as well. On the fourth floor of Atria Mall in Worli, The Spare Kitchen pulls in quite a fashionable crowd. When they have live music playing, the restaurant turns positively bustling. Weekends are especially busy for them, book ahead.

To pacify a wide range of palates, The Spare Kitchen presents an extensive menu replete with multiple cuisines. Sitting on one table you can enjoy a plethora of Indian curries to plates of silky pastas to loaded burger to juicy grilled steaks. Backing this all-encompassing menu is an impressive selection of booze. Get the party started with a round of shots and follow it up with whatever suits your boozy palate. Soak up the booze with some salty appetizers. The chef treats you with, gilafi lamb seekh, tempura idli ‘65’ margarita, tulsi chicken quesadilla, dual paneer tikka, prawn sambal oelek and wok tossed chilli garlic chicken. Second course entails, salli murgh, Italian mafia pizza, wannabe Sri Lankan fish curry, messy burger, grilled veg lasagna, Mumbai ka don pizza, ratatouille envelope, gambas pil pil, sesame crusted kofta and prawn in a coconut & lemongrass stew.

A basket of fresh breads and rice awaits you to polish off the curries. Ask your server what’s the dessert for the day. Their sweet menu is kind of limited. Grab what is on offer. Service can be a tad slow sometimes but is still warm and cordial. The minimalistic edgy look of The Spare Kitchen attracts your eyes immediately. The restaurant sprawls in different directions, offering their diners a spacious generous room that flows into several cozy nooks and corners. The entire space is done in grey tone but with clever use of colourful furnishings, they lift up the scene instantly. The play of contrast lends a sophisticated element to the décor. Shelves and shelves of books will interest bibliophiles. Its bit on the expensive side though.
