Once counted among Pune’s most happening nightclubs that introduced the city to the extraordinary concept of ‘revolving lounges’, Area 51 has lost its snazzy charm lately – possibly thanks to several other new, equally innovatively themed establishments having cropped up in the city since its heyday. Nonetheless, this spaceship-resembling party spot, sitting atop a hillock in Baner, still sees a large crowd on weekends. Shake a leg to Bollywood hits as you navigate the bar menu featuring the usual suspects such as long island iced tea and sangria pitchers, beer buckets and a few vaguely innovative cocktails such as a martini flavoured with mint and green apple. Food comprises of fairly run-of-the-mill Indian, Continental and Oriental nibbles – nothing to write home about.
