Neon blue lights brighten up an otherwise simple, formal brown indoor seating area at this seafood haunt. There is also an open terrace for smokers who do not mind skipping the AC comfort. A glass of sol kadhi makes for a refreshing aperitif to sip as you sift through the menu, which is a smorgasbord of fresh seafood dishes cooked in different regional styles – quite an anomaly in this part of town. Starters include all manner of fish preparations – from ‘harnai bombil’ which is Bombay duck stuffed with prawns (!), Mangalorean prawns ghee roast, a host of fruits de mer tawa- and rava-fried, and squid, crab and lobster tossed in different sauces and condiments. For mains, choose from a variety of curries; I would recommend the baby pomfret gassi (thick coconut gravy), crab Chettinad, salmon pulimunchi or clams sukka mopped up with a couple of fluffy neer dosas or appams.
No matter how much you may love your meat, sometimes all you can dream of is fish or crab or prawns or lobster. Those succulent morsels of flesh swimming in curry or grilled to perfection over fire. There is hundreds of way to consume seafood and we love every one of them. Our one big regret is not living next to the sea but still Pune has been fair to us, by giving us a plethora of fine dining options especially in seafood. One key favourite of ours is an eatery that is all about seafood. Even its name is enough to suggest you what their forte must be. ‘Fish N Bait’ is a seafood lovers haunt and is always brimming with foodies flocking to taste their fare. For your taste of gastronomic heaven drive down to Viman Nagar and experience it for yourself.
Fish N Bait serves an extensive menu which excels in seafood preparations. Various forms of seafood is cooked in regional ways so that a gourmet can have a blissful time wading through it. Cooking styles from Mangalorean, North Indian and Chinese kitchens can be relished through this glorious menu. Give the bar menu a skip and opt for a refreshing traditional drink like sol kadi or ale. Accompany that with starters such as, prawns koliwada, harnei bombil, pan fried chilli fish, lobster butter chilly fry, salt n pepper crab, tandoori murgh, raan-e-alishaan and paneer lahori tikka. Feast on a main course of, lobster curry, Mangalorian chicken curry, mutton rahra, paneer lababdar, prawns in black bean pepper sauce, mushroom & baby corn in mahlak sauce, squids in dry red chilli sauce and crabs Chettinad.
Mop up the scrumptious curries with a basket of buttery flatbreads or a rice accompaniment. Final sweet course is a tempting one where one can lose themselves into a plethora of desserts. Either savour, gajar ka halwa, matka rabri, kaala jamun, lychee with ice cream, hot gulab jamun, custard caramel, sizzling brownie with vanilla ice cream or honey noodles with vanilla ice cream. Interiors of Fish N Bait are good-looking one with dim lighting and a spacious formally decorated room. Sit next to the window to enjoy a great view between courses. The bill won’t be excessive so indulge freely and let yourself be wooed by their delectable seafood fare.
