If you are in the mood for a little drive to the outskirts and a pleasant al fresco dining experience, Free Bird is a good bet. You can choose to lounge in the vibrantly-lit garden area or the more straightforward beige-wood indoor section. The menu comprises your standard, feel-good ‘family restaurant’ fare, where the choice is between a kabab-roti-curry meal, Indo-Chinese gravy with noodles or rice, or a bowl of pasta. The flavours, however, are just right – the murg mussalam and chicken biryani with moist, long-grain rice and a smattering of crispy, golden-brown fried onions were especially lip-smacking. All in all, it is a decent place for a quick stopover while on a road trip – if not particularly for food, then for a quick, happy bite.
