Insider Tips

  • Besides retailing a variety of interesting baked products, the outlet also has some superb jams for sale (flavours include our favourite sweet chilli, watermelon-rose, pear-ginger, orange-saffron, and so on), as well as unusual butters flavoured with lemon, kiwi and pineapple
  • The restaurant’s bar menu offers an excellent wine list and some inspired signature cocktails, including a watermelon white wine cooler, a cucumber and dill martini, and a pineapple and bell peppers margarita
  • The fondues here are a real gourmet treat: the dukkah is an Egyptian inspired blend of almonds, sesame seeds, coriander, pepper and paprika, while the gremolata brings together lime, green peppercorns, parsley, capers and olive oil. And there is more, too

Getting this iconic Mumbai chain here was fraught with expectation – but it delivered and more. Set on the busy North Main Road in Koregaon Park, the interiors deliver you immediately from the frenzied traffic outside, transporting you into relaxation amid an understated décor of woodwork, grey and red upholstery. The offerings are exotic, pairing fantastical elements of flavour that only an imaginative cook could have brought together. The home-style hummus is a trifecta of nutmeg-spiced spinach and broccoli, cream cheese and sundried tomato, and beetroot and chilli; the slow pot roasted pulled lamb comes on sweet potato and cracked wheat kababs, with a pista-parsley sauce and salsa of mint, cherry, tomato and lime. The salads are like a walk through a secret garden for your palate, as are the kabab platters, pairing potato-thyme flatbread with myriad innovative toppings (watercress, fried salli, pea shoots, fennel, wasabi prawns, chargrilled spring greens, and so on). If sandwich combinations such as smoked salmon in a chive and dill bagel, or crisp halloumi with harissa-spiced corn wrap are too pleb for you, the mains should more than compensate, with ingredients such as couscous, Swiss chard, leeks, fennel, tarragon, and more vying for attention. There is a short but equally eye-catching list of thin crust pizzas. However, while you may indulge heavily along the way, do keep some room for the profiteroles filled with strawberry ice cream and doused with Belgian dark chocolate sauce in the end, or the soft carrot cake with a saffron cream cheese frosting.
