We Idliwale

We Idliwale is a restaurant in Viman Nagar, Pune serving South Indian. Known for South Indian dishes; ideal for family meals and group outings.

Tried the chicken kothu paratha, idli with chicken gravy, and Ambur biryani.
The kothu paratha stood out, spicy, flavourful, and packed with tender chicken pieces. Easily the highlight of the meal.
The idli with chicken gravy was decent; the gravy was mild and comforting, though the idlis could’ve been a bit fluffier. The Ambur biryani felt slightly dry for my taste.

Worth a visit if your taste buds are feeling creative.

Went to We Idliwale, Viman Nagar after hearing a lot of rave reviews about their food and quick service. Ordered the Seafood Kerala Biryani, but as a Keralite myself, I must say this was nowhere close to an authentic Kerala biryani.

Traditionally, Kerala fish biryani is made with one type of fish, but here it was mixed with prawns and fish together, more in the style of a Nawabi biryani. Even the rice used was not the kind you’d find in Kerala biryanis. In my entire life in Kerala, I’ve never come across biryani prepared this way.

To make matters worse, despite being cooked at the live counter, I ended up with serious food poisoning and had to be admitted to Sahyadri Hospital for a day. This was the only meal I had outside that day, so it was quite a disappointing and concerning experience.

Maybe some of their other dishes are better, but I’d strongly recommend taking the hype and reviews with a pinch of salt. Food authenticity and hygiene need serious attention here.

We ordered a ghee podi dosa, chicken kothu parotta and a filter coffee. I have never been so disappointed with a dosa. It was bland, dry and the ghee was only for the name. Wasn’t even average.

Chicken kothu parotta wasn’t worth the hype, very basis and was a disappointment again. It really wasn’t worth the amount charged.

Lastly, Filter coffee was not even warm let alone hot. It was just a weird kind of bitter.

We Idliwale has a really nice vibe and a cozy setup. The food is unique, with creative twists on traditional South Indian dishes, and everything we tried was tasty and well-prepared. The service was polite and quick, which added to the experience. Prices are definitely on the higher side, so it may not be for everyday visits, but it’s worth trying at least once for the innovative flavors and presentation.

Had a fantastic meal at We Idli Wale, Viman Nagar! The highlight for me was definitely the Idli Chicken Curry in Kundapura Style the flavors were spot on, rich, and incredibly satisfying. The idlis served with the curry were super soft and very filling, making it a wholesome dish that left me happy and full.

We also tried their Nellore dosa, and I loved that they customized it to our liking, making it extra crispy as we requested. The use of grounded black sesame seeds added a distinct and delicious twist to the dosa that set it apart from the usual fare.

For dessert, we wrapped up the meal with the only sweet on the menu, the Coconut Paysum. It was creamy and light, with toasted cashew nuts on top—the perfect ending to the meal.
It's a very small outlet so gets very busy and there could a wait.
All in all, a very good experience. Highly recommended for anyone looking for tasty South Indian food with a unique touch!

A small place that serves outstanding food, it may look experimental to some, as it pairs idli and dosa with curries, which are the USP. But it also serves traditional breakfast menu and some outstanding curries and well known standalone dishes from south and Sri Lanka.
Make sure to get there early on weekends to have the idli and parotta related dishes. We were lucky to get the last portions of it; tried the chicken ghee roast paired with parotta & chicken kundapuri with idli. Fantastic stuff.
Will definitely be coming back for trying kothu parota and other dishes.

Traditional South Indian flavors in the heart of Pune!
Recently visited We Idliwale in Viman Nagar and was blown away by the quality and creativity of their dishes. Tried the Chicken Idli, Mutton Idli, and Prawns Curry with Dosa — each one was bursting with flavor and had that true South Indian soul. The idlis were soft and perfectly paired with the spicy, rich gravies. Ended the meal with their strong filter coffee — the perfect finish!

Loved the warm service and cozy, minimalistic ambiance. A must-visit spot for anyone who enjoys traditional South Indian food with a twist. Will definitely be back to try more!

I visited We Idliwale in Pune and had an amazing culinary experience. Their authentic take on traditional South Indian cuisine is a real game-changer! The idlis, usually paired with sambar, are now served with bold, slow-cooked curries like Military Mutton Curry, Jaffna Prawn Curry, and Kundapur Chicken Curry , each dish bursts with authentic flavors. The parotta was perfectly flaky, and the ghee podi roast dosa added a delightful crunch to the meal. The filter coffee was the ideal finishing touch, making the entire experience memorable. I highly recommend We Idliwale for anyone looking to explore innovative yet traditional South Indian dishes in Pune.
