I visited GAVA Dormitory (attached with CAFE DE VERDE), Koramangala, and would like to share a detailed and balanced account of my experience, covering both positive aspects and areas that require serious attention.
The bunk beds provided were satisfactory, with reasonably comfortable mattresses. I sincerely appreciate the support and courteous attitude of Mr. Rishi, Mr. Hari, and other staff members, who were attentive listeners and made genuine efforts to assist me whenever required. In particular, I extend my thanks to Mr. Hari for kindly helping to heat my food using the oven and for offering personal comfort during my stay.
The cafeteria-style Persian (Dharbar) seating arrangement was visually appealing, comfortable, and well-suited for project work and official tasks. The open-air restaurant area was especially pleasant, supported by excellent internet speed and an ideal location overall.
I also appreciate Mr. Sagar, the property owner (as I understand), for conceptualizing and establishing the aesthetically pleasing French and Italian–inspired “Café Verde”. His initiative in providing employment opportunities to women—many of whom were observed working responsibly as chefs, kitchen staff, stewards, and in housekeeping—is commendable. A lady staff member was seen cleaning regularly, which reflects positive intent toward maintenance. I further appreciate Mr. Sagar’s encouragement of women who are balancing part-time work alongside their studies.
However, there are several serious concerns that must be addressed.
The washroom condition was unacceptable, with a persistent and unbearable foul odor, likely due to improper disposal or inadequate sanitation. This requires immediate rectification. While the LDR lighting setup in the washroom is appreciated for its power-saving efficiency, I strongly recommend the provision of separate washroom facilities for women, which is essential for dignity, privacy, and safety.
I was deeply distressed by an incident involving intrusive and inappropriate personal questioning, including queries about:
My name and academic title
My father’s name
The identity of my brother whose GPay account I was using
My mother’s religion
Such questioning felt discriminatory and unjustified. No hotel or hostel has the right to demand disclosure of personal, familial, religious, or community-related details from a guest. Past negative experiences, if any, can never justify indefinite or intrusive discrimination. This incident caused significant emotional trauma and directly affected my ability to continue my planned one-week stay.

Additionally, I was informed—reportedly by Dr. Krish (Front Office Executive)—that eating inside the kitchen area is prohibited everywhere. This communication caused further distress, particularly as I had already explained my situation to my mother, who lives with my sister in Los Angeles. I remain grateful to the women staff members who served me food with kindness during this time.
Due to the emotional impact of these experiences, I was unable to continue my academic work, including writing my dissertation on Glioblastoma Multiforme, which was a primary purpose of my stay.
Regarding Café Verde (attached to GAVA Dormitory), I must highlight serious hygiene and comfort concerns:
A dog was allowed to freely move within the dining area, repeatedly lying on and rubbing against floor cushions, pillows, and mattresses used by multiple guests for dining in the Persian-style seating arrangement.
No staff intervention was observed, even when the animal came close to plates, utensils, and serving areas. This presents legitimate public health and hygiene risks.
While kindness toward pets is appreciated, health and safety must take precedence. Measures must be taken to prevent pet saliva or contact from contaminating dining spaces.
Furthermore, the music volume was excessively loud, making it difficult to converse, relax, or work. Such noise levels can be particularly distressing for guests with medical sensitivities, neurological conditions, or those seeking a calm environment.
