A modern Pan-Asian restaurant, located at Lavelle Road, Bengaluru, offers an array of Chinese delicacies along with a fine selection of cocktails, mocktails and other spirits. The interiors of this two-storied bar and pub are exquisitely done with dragons and lanterns along with stylish wooden décor. The place is huge with a comfortable seating area. Start off your culinary journey here with their mouth-watering dim sums or ‘Sizzling Rice Soup’. You can also try their ‘Firecracker Chicken Skewers’ – a type of Chinese barbeque. For the main course, you must opt for their ‘3 Grain Fried Rice’, ‘Chow Mein Noodles with Smoked Chicken & Chilli’, ‘Cantan Chilli Chicken’ or ‘Spiced Tofu & Greens’.This space where Cantan is located has seen a number of restaurants come and go. Perhaps Cantan is going to be the one to stick it through. Done up with a lot of class, not for this space the clichéd elements of Chinese décor. Elements such as the dragon above the bar, the Great Wall of China inspired visual, eclectic printed sofa and seat covers come together to create a lovely ambience. The menu reads delicious and there are a lot of things you will want to add on to your to-eat list immediately. Among the dimsums, the 'Carrot, Wild Mushroom and Truffle Oil Dimsum' is great, as is the 'Chicken and Sweet Potato Leaves Shui Mai'. The 'Edamame and Tofu Dumpling' too, come together really well for two core ingredients that usually need something to spice them up. Among the cold plates, the 'Yusheng' really stood out for me – thin slices of sashimi, tuna and salmon with ribbons of vegetables and set of dipping sauces. Also, try the 'Pork and Marinated Cucumber Salad' – the happiness is in the chilli oil and garlic dipping sauce. The pan-seared 'Beef and Coriander Guotie' is really good. For the mains, opt for the 'Edamame and Asparagus Rice' or even the 'Raw Mango and Prawn Fried Rice'. Pair this with 'Buddha’s Delight', 'Wok Tossed Seasonal Vegetables', including lotus root or the 'Cantan Chilli Chicken with Coriander Root'. Another great dish is the 'Sizzling Pork' with Goji berries and black vinegar. Wrap up your meal with 'Chinese Egg Custard Tarts' or the 'Cantonese Steamed Cheesecake'. They have some lovely cocktail choices. My picks would be the 'Cantan XO' – a G&T with homemade salted plum shrub and oolong tea syrup. The 'Lady of the Moon' – Organic Kumquat, vodka sweet and sour topped off with tonic water.
