Being a hardcore South Indian, who loves her south Indian food more than anything else, I find it hard to narrow down on places where I would go repeatedly for a good meal. Carnatic has now definitely made it to that list. Showcasing classic dishes from Kerala, Karnataka and Mangalore, a meal here has to be followed by a siesta. Each segment is neatly segregated into vegetarian and meat-based options. From Karnataka, the 'Kadale Kaalu Usli', seasoned grams tossed in ground masala is great. The 'Naati Koli Fry' is very reminiscent of military hotel fare and the 'Kheema Unde' – dry or masala fried will set your taste buds afire. The mains here have the likes of the 'Nati Koli Saaru', the 'Sprouted Horse Gram Curry' and even a 'Buttermilk Curry' (so nostalgic). From Tamil Nadu, you have the 'Kothu Paratha', the 'Thakkali Paruppu Soup', 'Amma’s Kozhi' and a 'Gizzard Fry' done Madurai style. The Mangalorean in me found the 'Ghee Roast' a bit too sweet for my liking, but the 'Kori Gassi with Roti' was a great combination. From the Kerala segment, The 'Aatirachi Curry with Malabar Parathas' was a brilliant combination. Traditional desserts like the 'Obattu', 'Karijayi', 'Ada Pradhaman' and 'Sikkina Unde' are up for grabs.
