As most would be aware, Chandigarh does not boast of many high rise buildings due to building bylaws. However, the city’s industrial area now has hotels that offer a view from above. The House of Lords, housed in The Altius Boutique Hotel, is among them. The decor of the fine dining restaurant lives up to its name with its unmistakable British theme, right down to the Chesterfield couches and tartan print carpeting. Done up in hues of brown, red and green, the wooden interiors add to the charm of the place. The menu, however, does not seem to have been influenced by the Brits barring the exception of 'Fish and Chips'. Instead, it is a melting pot of north Indian, some Italian and Chinese cuisine. There is a plump spread of appetisers and will appeal to those who like a good selection of starters. Leading this line-up is ‘Altius Ka Atta Chicken’, ‘Chandni Murg Malai Tikka’, ‘Amritsari Fish’ and the likes. Vegetarian starters bring along ‘Hare Moong ki Afghani Tikki’ and ‘Zamindari Dahi Ke Khate Aloo’. Some of the names of the dishes seem unnecessary and try and mask a regular dish, available everywhere else. The ‘Nargisi Kofta’ is a good option for vegetarians.
