Cheerfully convivial, Colony best captures this Raintree’s leisure proposition, merging from the bright coffee shop to a relaxed dining area – a welcome change from its loud, cafeteria-like brethren on Anna Salai (it is Raintree’s business hotel after all).Unless part of your stay, skip the buffet and go for some gems in the À la carte menu – Chennai pattinam is plateful of the Bay of Bengal’s bounty, a crisp platter of local seafood. Although part of the platter, you might want to order a second round of the juicy prawns pollichathu – the banana-leaf-steamed shrimps are sizeable and thankfully, they do not overdo the masala. The tiramisu and cheesecakes are unspectacular, but indulgent; experiment with the glocal vattapalam brûlèe.
