Amber rooms, with dim light bouncing off walls and tablecloth; customary flashes of red, the Buddha and some form of a dragon; and that damp, slightly vinegary smell of rice sizzling on a hot wok, wafting out of the kitchen door now and then. I could be talking about almost any Chinese restaurants that middle-class Indians like me grew up on. These days, I do snap my chopsticks at anyone who misses out Sichuan peppercorns in Ma Po Tofu, but there will always be a warm corner for restaurants like Cascade. Cascade has been around for over three decades in Chennai and Coimbatore, and it remains popular for generous portion sizes and predictable flavours in Chinese dishes that we have made our own.
The food is excellent - The ambience is fine and the service can be a bit better. The warmth in the service was missing - though an extra service charge was billed. Their crab soup is worth trying and so is their paper rolled chicken. Overall cost is a bit on the high side, which will make me think twice before visiting again.
Visited with the family during festive season of Xmas and sorry to say entire evening was ruined. There is complete drop in quality of food and service both. Will not visit again
Cascade restaurant was my favorite in 80's. Now and then i visit Cascade KNK Road. But, its not worth dining at Anna Nagar. everything was wrong , Except Deep Fried Shredded lamb in sauce. Try, Khader Nawaz Khan Road Branch
I have been going to this restaurant for the last 8 years now and never, ever, have I had a sub par experience. The flavours are delightful and the portions are sumptuous and the staff very friendly and attentive all at a reasonable price. The approach to the restaurant may not be all that attractive and the parking may be a challenge but if you look past it, you won't be disappointed with the food. My family and I are particularly fond of the soups and the dim sum basket. My colleagues are a fan of the main courses - both the rice and noodles. I am a particular fan of the Phuket fish. Give the syrupy drinks from the table top menu card a miss. Unless you like flavoured sugar syrup. In all, you won't go wrong if you like Chinese food!
Have been visiting this place for over 10 years now. Had stopped visiting it for last 4 years. It has recently closed for some renovations and this is the first time we went after the renovation . This ambience didn't feel as if there was any renovation done. Very dimly lit and the tables were not cleaned. Some years back when we used to go there the place was always crowded and you had to wait. But didn't see the same rush this time.. in Fact place was half empty. now sure if it is cause of the ambience standard going down. They service Chinese food. While the food is good however I feel the other branches they have in Kader Nawaz khan road is the best. Hunan veg soup was very good . Also we had the 5 coloured rice with a shredded chicken gravy dish.. Both these dishes turned out to be good. Cascade the food quality is quite good and give a good Chinese taste but this place is not well maintained .
