  • The dining space upstairs is better suited for lounging on cushy sofas with a large group while smaller tables on the ground floor are great for dates
  • The hidden gems on the menu are Fez’s 'Homemade Cinnamon and Rose Petal Ice Creams'. Smooth, floral and redolent of spice and honey, you should not leave without a scoop

Fez has outlasted at least a few middle-eastern crises from its quiet corner in Malcha Marg. Walk in and you are greeted by a dreamily illuminated space which might remind you of starry Arabian nights. With a selection ranging from Lebanese classics to small Italian and Indian sections, Mezze platters are a great way to sample the fare. My non-vegetarian platter was a huge array of 'Lamb Chelo Kababs', 'Fish Tarator', 'Shish Taouk', 'Jojah Kababs', 'Calamari Fritters', 'Pita Bread', 'Hummus' and 'Tzatziki'. The 'Fish Tarator' bore a heady aroma of zatar with deft spicing on moist river sole kababs. 'Lamb Chelo Kababs' had bursts of mint but slightly dried out body. The 'Shish Taouk' and 'Jojah Kababs' were deftly spiced as well, and grilled to a light char with moist meat. 'Crisp Calamari Fitters' turned out light and cooked through without turning chewy while the Hummus was heavy on tahini and I preferred dipping the thin and dry 'Pita' into creamy 'Tzatziki'. Desserts are a strong suit at Fez, with great in-house ice creams and bakes. My 'Walnut Brownie' had a toasty char at the edges and a comforting nutty sweetness.
