Located in South Point Mall on the Golf Course Road, Karavaan is a casual dining restaurant that serves delicacies of Awadh and north Indian origin. They specialize in kebabs and sweet treats too. It is a spacious restaurant with simple furniture yet maintaining its elegancy. Some of the kebabs that you can try are ‘Seekh Kebab’ - tender lamb minced rolls mixed with royal spices and saffron, skewered and grilled over charcoal fire, ‘Murh Malai Kebab’ - succulent boneless chicken morsels seasoned with mild spices and charcoal grilled and, lastly, ‘Peshawri Kebab’ - boneless chunks of lamb mixed with mild spices and skewered and charcoal grilled in tandoor. Other than this, they have a variety of the main course like ‘Dum Ke Mushroom’- button mushrooms cooked on dum with tomato and cashew based brown aromatic gravy and ‘Shahi Nihari’ - lamb cooked overnight in aromatic patli masala on dum; cooked in its own juices and marrow and seasoned with exotic herbs and saffron.
Happen to select this restaurant from EZ Diner recommendation and it came out as a nice surprise. The food taste is good and portions are adequate. It is a smaller outlet and ambiance is not of a fine dining restaurant, however pretty good value for money. We had good time.
I have been visiting as well as ordering from Karavaan for over a year and never been disappointed. Though every time I visit this place I have a slight concern that they may not be as good as when they first opened up BUT this place has maintained the same consistency with food and service. Touch Wood! Hands down this is one of the best restaurants serving Indian and Mughlai cuisine. You can smell and feel the freshness in every bite! The flavors are so distinct for every dish. Only a few five star hotel Indian restaurants serve this kind of "clean food". Not one of those places where every dish tastes the same and flavors are lost in the melee of masalas. Understandably so since this restaurant is run by an ex-chef from a top five star hotel. I am a vegetarian and I just love this place for its simple platters, starters, the dal, veg biryani and an awesome awesome service. You can feel the love of the chef who clearly enjoys feeding you good food. And it is served with the most genuine smile by the staff. Icing on the cake - the economical pricing. Good food at that rate - rare! And everyone I have recommended this place to cannot thank me enough. I can eat here every day. Period.
#MirchiFreeDelights While mooching around South Point Mall the other day, my husband and I spotted this place boasting chefs from Bukhara and Dum Pukht. I ordered mirchi-free Nihari and Galouti Kebabs for today. Ohhh! They were delicious! 2 huge pieces of melt-in-the-mouth Nihari and the softest, tastiest galoutis of a pretty generous size too. The only downside was the very high price of the 2 lachcha parathas - but we should have checked the menu before ordering! Very nice surroundings and top notch service too! We're going to go again soon. Still got the burra and the raan and the kakoris to taste...yum! They said that with one or two days' notice they'll make any item on the menu mirchi-free for me. Such a relief!
Great food, with excellent service. The waiter was very helpful in recommending dishes, and was concerned about whether I could handle the spice. Loved the roomala roti, with the kebab.
I ended up in this place thanks to the big F membership. Since other members had recommended this I decided to try it out whilst I was at South Point Mall. Warm and welcoming, the ambience is nice and good Interiors. The staff is helpful and friendly and ever ready with smiles. The cuisine is North-West frontier. Peshawar Tikkas are a good starting point, succulent lamb almost pit roasted and delicious. I got served complimentary papads also. I had the Kadhai Ghost and Dal Karavaan - both were outstanding. The dal specially was reminiscent of Dal Bukhara and equally tasty. I believe the Chef is ex ITC. Overall a good and delicious albeit large meal and I managed to do good justice to it.
