A small coffee shop that has been left more or less in its original form to be quaint and retro, but given enough of a gentle polish to look its age. The service is fairly old-school and there is a lovely terrace that really does overlook a garden with fine old trees and birdsong. It is a lovely part of Delhi and it is well worth the effort of making a trip there just for the atmosphere. The food includes local favourites like Chaat Platter and Mixed Kabab Platter. The hotel is popular with British guests who revel in the atmosphere of the Raj.
Sitting in the garden every morning with the huge banyan tree as the scenic backdrop was a sheer delight. The food was delicious - South Indian idilis, upma, porridge with raisins and cinnamon and a nice array of fresh juices.
I have eaten quite often here, always a 'business lunch', as this seems to be the only place (in that part of Delhi) where you can get okay food in a quiet comfortable clean surroundings. The problem is that the food has never been exciting...meat dishes generally are somewhat dry and tough...would never go back there just for food. But then it is a beautiful hotel with, again, a quiet and comfortable space. Overall the food is not too bad.
We had an Indian lunch and breakfast here twice during our stay. Lunch was very good indeed and was very popular with the locals which is always a good sign. Great variety at breakfast between Indian and European continental style breakfasts. Hot food can also be ordered for breakfast.
We stayed in the hotel and ate here twice and also had breakfast here. The food and the service was very good and attentive and the food delicious. It rained on the first night when we were out in the garden but with the umbrella and shelter from the building it wasn't a problem to stay and eat outdoors. Breakfasts were also very good with a lot of choice.
We had a junior waiter who was struggling. He got the orders wrong and then finally delivered the wine when we were finished and ready to go. Management gave us that bottle free.
