Special New Year Themed Menus Featuring Authentic Chinese Delicacies

One of the most popular cuisines in the city is Chinese food. What started out with a love affair for Indianised Chinese has slowly morphed into a deeper love for more authentic and traditional dishes.

2017 is the year of the Rooster and the city is all set to welcome the Chinese New Year. While you could visit any of your favourite Chinese restaurants for an indulgent meal, we picked a few that are making a special effort to really celebrate the Chinese New Year. Here is a list of places where you should dine this weekend.

By The Mekong – The St Regis Hotel is ushering in the year of the Rooster with a special Chinese menu at their restaurant By The Mekong. The menu set by Master Chef Shi Xilin, who is the Chef de Cuisine at By The Mekong, promises it to be a culinary treat. The best part about this menu is that it features dishes that you do not see on the regular menu like chicken jiaozh, shandong style sautéed shrimp or even a pan-fried asparagus, to name a few. It helps that the restaurant is located on the 37th floor of the hotel with a spectacular view of the city, which adds to the ambience ensuring a memorable meal. The special menu is available for both lunch and dinner.

Yauatcha – This dim sum house is a popular eatery for folks who want to go all out with their dim sums and the restaurant has their own special Chinese New Year Signature Menu. This menu is a four coursed set meal with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. It is a mix of popular dishes from their menu and includes curries, dumplings, stir-fry dishes and other popular ones. The menu extends beyond the New Year till the 10th of February but the regular menu is also available.

China House – The Grand Hyatt Mumbai has one of the best Chinese restaurants in the city and this year they are celebrating Chinese New Year with great gusto. There are specially crafted cocktails along with signature dishes such as the Home Style Duck, Radish Cakes in XO Sauce, Pan-Fried Lamb Chops with black pepper sauce, Clay Pot Spinach, Tofu with Glass Noodles and plenty more. The menu is available until February 2nd and is a great excuse to celebrate and enjoy a delectable Chinese feast.

San-Qi – The Four Seasons Hotel is known for their Asian delicacies and for this Chinese New Year they are celebrating with a special menu crafted by Master Chinese Chef Lin Lin Yang. The menu includes a lot of dishes from popular Chinese-speaking regions and has plenty of fiery Sichuan elements as well. So what you will not find on most menus but you will here is a Singaporean delicacy called yu sheng, a seafood xiang guo from Sichuan and even a delicate Shanghai style crispy duck.

Ming Yang – The restaurant has always been a popular choice with the suburban crowd but post its recent makeover it has become even more popular. Ming Yang at The Taj Land's End Hotel celebrates every Chinese festival and this New Year it is no different. They have a special menu that features a lot of their signature and star dishes. While most special menus are limited to a couple of dishes this one reads like the main menu itself with lots to choose from including dim sums, ming yang chicken, crispy garlic prawns, steamed red snapper in chilli bean sauce, stir-fry lotus root with shimeji Mushrooms in Sichuan pepper sauce and much more.
