Restaurants serving the most delicious Thai food in Mumbai.

Thai food is much loved by most city folks. For years, diners were restricted to the few token Thai dishes in Oriental menus, except for 1 or 2 stand-alone dedicated to Thai cuisine. Much has changed in the last couple of years and if you are craving for some Pad Thai or Som Tam, then, any of these restaurants will deliver.

Thai Pavilion

City folks have a special place in their hearts for Thai Pavilion. It is the first Thai restaurant in the city and is just as popular as it was when it started a couple of decades ago. It is a Thai fine dine and over the years has developed a loyal fan base. Thick fragrant curries, spicy aromatic appetizers and their soft shell crabs are a couple of things that diners just can not get enough of.

The Blue

While this might be a tiny restaurant, it has got a massive reputation. Perpetually bursting with hungry diners, this one-year-old Thai and Japanese restaurant is a rage. Run by Chef Seefah and her husband Chef Karan ( both ex-chefs at the Four Seasons ) it is possibly the best place to come for a Thai meal that will have you think you are in a streetside joint in Bangkok instead of Bandra. The Pad Thai and Tom Yum Soup here are legendary.

Nara Thai

The popular restaurant from Bangkok opened its doors in BKC and has given the suburbs its first authentic Thai restaurant. While the dishes are the same as their Bangkok counterpart, there has been special care taken to curate a fabulous vegetarian menu that features nearly 50 different dishes to cater to city folks. Their special Crepe Cake is a hot seller but the Pomelo Salad, Fried Rice and Crab Curry are just as popular.

Tamnak Thai

This simple restaurant seems to have been forgotten with the new breed of Thai eateries and has been a city favourite for a long time. Tucked away in Dadar, Tamnak Thai is still considered one of the best spots for a hearty Thai meal. It is not as upscale as the other restaurants on this list but it is not what one calls inexpensive either. If you are in between BKC and South Mumbai then pop by and indulge in some Green Curry and Laab Gai ( Minced Chicken Salad ).

Izaya

Farrokh Khambatta single-handedly made the city fall in love with Khao Suey. He is a master of oriental cuisines and his latest venture Izaya is a treat for Thai food lovers. They have got a separate menu featuring dishes from their Japanese Robata Grill, but for the most part, the emphasis is on the Thai menu. All the usual suspects can be found but our favourite is the Sa Khoo, a Thai style dumpling, intricately made with a mixture of rice and tapioca flour which is far more delicate than a regular dim sum. The Frilly Egg is another notable mention which is really just a humble lacy fried egg but garnished with fish sauce, chillies and a whole lot of Thai condiments making it, unlike any other egg you have had.
