Enjoy a pizza of your choice to commemorate this special day

World Pizza Day is upon us and relishing a pizza today seems an appropriate thing to do. A popular dish in Mumbai, pizza is now almost synonymous with comfort food. From Neapolitan pizza to a thick doughy crust pizza and from a deep pan Californian pizza to a handmade one, the options in crusts are endless. One can also get almost any toppings imaginable on a pizza. Experimenting with different flavour combinations in a pizza is the norm today and chefs are doing so unabashedly. What is more, there are dessert pizzas on offer too. So, this World Pizza Day, treat yourself to a pizza - a thin, crispy triangular slice topped with melted mozzarella cheese, tomato sauce and various toppings or a wood-fired one topped with a sauce made from San Marzano tomatoes, gobs of fresh Buffalo mozzarella, basil, garlic and extra virgin olive oil. Go ahead and take your pick from our recommendations.

The Four Cheese Artichoke Pizza at Scribble Stories, Bandra West

This medium crust pizza topped with sautéed artichoke and leeks, with a mix of premium cheese - gouda, emmental, parmesan and buffalo mozzarella, is a treat you owe yourself. You can opt for the entire pizza or enjoy it by the slice. The varied flavours and textures of the cheese are undoubtedly the highlight. Bite into this savoury delight and sip one of their many coffees.

Capri Pizza, California Pizza Kitchen, Malad

Whoever said vegetarian pizza is boring, think again. The Capri with vegetables wrapped in a Pomodoro sauce, arugula and cheesy all the way, is a pure indulgence. This is a pizza that one does not mind skipping one’s carnivorous instincts for. The portion size is generous and apt for sharing.

Cilantro Lime Chicken Pizza, Café Mangii, Powai

This tangy but robust pizza with distinct flavours of bell peppers, grilled pineapple is a delight for the palate. The citrusy hint to the chicken enhances the flavours. Handcrafted and baked in the wood-fired oven, the crispy pizza base pairs well with the generous toppings.

American Pizza at The Bandra Project by Pizza Express, Bandra

Any meat lover’s dream come true, this hearty pizza with pepperoni and mozzarella is satiating and a palate-pleaser all the way. The chunky pepperoni compliments the cheese and one experiences a burst of flavours upon the first bite. It is available in two versions - Classic and Romana, one can choose as per one’s palate preference.

Coffee Pizza at 1441 Pizzeria, Andheri West

The Coffee Pizza is a unique offering for any pizza lover. A delicious combination of Italian sauce, shredded mozzarella, blue cheese, green chilli, honey coffee powder and a sprinkling of chopped basil, it perks up your taste buds immediately.

Pollo Noci at Pizza by the Bay, Marine Drive

While this place is known for its indulgent pizza, there are healthier versions too. The healthy Nine Grain Pizza here is immensely popular and worth a try. No compromise on the flavours in the toppings though. Choose from a wide selection, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. But the Pollo Noci with chicken, broccoli, walnuts and honey is goodness personified in terms of textures and flavours. A rare pizza that gives you taste plus health.
