Where to head for that fulfilling breakfast meal

When it comes to picking a restaurant for a meal, it has never been a difficult choice and plenty of them come to mind. Though for some reason when you are asked about a good breakfast spot, you always falter a bit as the recommendations don't come that easily. For some reason a lot of people don't consider breakfast as a meal worthy of dining out. If you are a part of this lot of folks, then you are really missing out on something! Believe it or not, the trend of enjoying a good breakfast is fast catching on and there are plenty of options to choose from.

Take for example, both the outlets at Salt Water Cafe. Apart from their regular food, they have a delicious breakfast menu which they serve from 9 am - 11.59 am. Hot picks include their bagels, smoked bacon, pancakes and eggs. Their eggs are so popular that they have a separate section of egg preparation, which is served all day.

For the very best croissants in town, there can be no other stop than Le Pain Quotidien. The Belgian chain (with a whopping 5 outlets across the city) whose name translates to 'our daily bread' takes their bread very seriously. Their croissants, plain or flavoured, are absolutely divine but along with that their granola bowls and waffles are perfect to kick start the day. They also serve Indian breakfast items like poha, idli and even akuri! The breakfast is available from 8 am - 11 am on weekdays and till 3 pm on weekends. The croissants are thankfully available throughout the day, but best had fresh first thing in the morning.

Believe it or not, one of the best breakfasts in the city is at the Konkan Cafe where Chef Anando Solomon and team outdo themselves with an incredible South Indian spread. You can expect an assortment of idlis, dosa and the works, however, this luxury can only be indulged on the weekends.

Old timers still have their favourites at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and reigning supreme is the breakfast spread at the Sea Lounge. Along with the food, they have an extensive tea and coffee selection as well. Then again, nothing beats starting your day with excellent food and then an amazing view of the Gateway of India and all the boats at sea.

The Birdsong Cafe is a perfect breakfast spot for the health conscious. This cafe is dedicated to organic food and their breakfast menu (available from 8.30 am) includes made to order eggs (which are fresh free range farm eggs), buckwheat pancakes, Kheema pao, French toast and even some idli, poha and sabudana khichadi, depending which one is the special for the day.

The Long & Short Gastro Pub at the InterContinental Marine Drive is known for its dinner crowd, but if you come here for breakfast you are treated to some excellent food along with a gorgeous view of Marine Drive.

Suzette is the city's cutest French cafe and all three outlets are a superb spot for breakfast. It is also known for their exceptionally good croissants but you need to be lucky enough to get there early before 9 am otherwise they are all polished off. Crêpes, fresh juices, eggs and baguettes are what you will find on this menu.

These are just some of our favourite breakfast spots. If you want to add to this list we are all ears!
