Kolkata's Top Places To Enjoy Your IPL Matches
Cricket Craziness With Some Good Food
15 May, 2017 by Anindya Sundar BasuThe battle lines are drawn. It is almost nearing the end and some favourites are on their way out and some underdogs are creating upsets. This is the tenth year of IPL and it has become a permanent fixture for the cricket lovers and as well as sports lovers. This stage when every match becomes crucial, no one would like to miss a single match.
The fun and happiness of sipping a chilled drink with some quick finger food or a day out with family and friends for a joint viewing of a particular match with a delectable dinner can be a perfect recipe for weekends too.
Most of the restaurants, sports bar and pubs would telecast live matches now. A quick glance of the best viewing options with great food and some drinks in Kolkata.
The Irish House - It is fun watching the matches here. If you wear the jersey of the teams playing, then you may end up getting some discounts. There is a Happy Hour Deal from 4 pm to 7 pm. Other than that, if your favourite team is playing from 8 pm, you can enjoy your Kingfisher beer at Rs. 95 only and who can forget the Burgers or the Nachos of this place. This place will energise you more to cheer for your team.
Deck 88 - If you want to enjoy the matches in an open-air space, which is a rarity in Kolkata, then hop on to Deck 88 which is the newly opened rooftop bar for Astor Hotels. Do not worry about the heat and sweat. The place keeps cool with the help of air misters. The kababs and their signature dishes are to die for while the open-air ambience will give a unique experience.
The GRID - Even if your team has lost, this place is an ideal spot to lift your spirits. In no time, it has become one of the hot spots of the city. This microbrewery has started shelving out some finest beers like the Caldera, Osborn, Hogback or Estuary and inspirational food like Naan Rolls and Juhu Gymkhana Noodles which are hot favourites.
Bodega Cantina Y Bar - Come to Park Street and Bodega Cantina Y Bar has an IPL frenzy. There serve a Kolkata Knight Riders special cocktail - The Knight charger which is an infusion of Vodka, lime, creme de violet topped with beer. One can choose from Vada Pao Sliders, Korean Chicken Sliders or Curry Fried Chicken and play the prediction game to get some complimentary shots.
The Dugout - If it is a vegetarian fare that you are looking at, then Dugout at Bhawanipur and Southern Avenue is a good option, where any item on the menu is priced at Rs. 99. Although alcohol is not served here, one can try out their Hookahs and Sizzlers.
Afra Tafri - The newly opened Gastropub and microbrewery (not yet operational) has some innovative starters and the best part is that the large central screen is visible from all different sitting areas of this place. Try out their IPL special menu where they have regional dishes.
The Drunken Monkey - Far north near Airport, this place has special combo offers like Super Six which is six vodka drinks for Rs. 666 or Straight Drive which includes 1 litre of Long Island Ice tea and a pizza for Rs. 999. The all-time favourites are the different kinds of fries from all over the world and their pizzas.
The Bridge - The Bridge at The Park has unlimited draught beer with a choice of 2 snacks at Rs. 2495 for 2. Who would not like to watch a cricket match with some lip smacking kababs with chilled beer?
Be it a birthday or an anniversary celebration, be it a team outing or be it Durga Puja or Christmas, it is the occasions and celebrations which keep the moolah ringing for the restaurants. In 10 years, IPL has been able to block a part of the annual calendar where people intend to spend some time together. If good food and booze accompany, then it is just like a "Free Hit" - try to make the maximum out of it.
