The last few months were all about light meals, summer salads and healthy options. However this season it's all about warm hearty meals. The onset of the monsoons demands piping hot beverages, preferably steaming cups of chai and crispy fried snacks like bhajias. While fried food is always synonymous with the rains, restaurants around the city are warming up to the idea of an exclusive monsoon menu featuring dishes that will warm you up on a gloomy rain washed day. Some offer your staple season favourites but some are mixing things up and trying to get creative in these rainy months.
The Barking Deer –This brewery is going all out in the crispy greasy fried food department which is ideal for this weather. They have a special monsoon street food festival full of delights like Vada Pav, Misal Pav, Mutton Samosa, Aloo Tikki, Chicken Pakoda and even an unusual Masala Chai Flavoured Beer. The menu is a change from the usual pub fare that they serve and a great way to unwind and chow down during the heavy rains.
Olive Bar and Kitchen – This is one of the city's original dining hotspots and is still a favourite with the celebrity circuit. Known for their pretty plates and illustrious parties, this season Olive Bar and Kitchen has a menu full of wholesome dishes to compliment the weather. From hearty soups, a Mediterranean CrockPot, Roast Chicken and their signature pasta and pizza. The food here will warm you up and the dishes are new additions, not what is currently on their menu so a change is always good.
SodaBottleOpenerWala – This Parsi themed restaurant is embracing the monsoon season and is a great spot to enjoy some typical Mumbai-style street food favourites. From Vada Pav, Kaanda Bhaajia, Rasta Sandwich to Bun Maska, plenty that goes well with your chai or in this case their signature Irani chai. If you are feeling adventurous then you can try their very own Bacon Vada Pav.
One Street Over – This restaurant is ideal for greasy tasty satisfying meals since it is all about American food. You can bite into their Animal Burger which as the name suggests is a hefty one, opt for Fried Chicken and Waffles or even the Bacon Kimchi Fried Rice or even the Potato Skins loaded with Mac n Cheese! It is a menu full of dishes that will curb all sorts of cravings this rainy season.
