Scrumptious Plant Based Food With Local Produce!

As far as food trends go, there seems to be a significant shift towards vegetarian based restaurants. There was a time when you thought restaurants that had a meatless menu meant only Indian fast food or regional Indian dishes. Today the same eggless meatless eateries have dishes from all over the world that taste fabulous.

The latest restaurant to embrace this plant-based menu is Candy & Green a beautiful rooftop restaurant in Breach Candy, South Mumbai that has its very own urban farm on their terrace. In an effort to eat local, they grow their own foliage (25 kgs a week) that is used in their menu. There is also an indoor space, but the real charm is to sip on a decadent cocktail or enjoy one of the many creative small plates while enjoying the sunset over Mumbai's skyline.

The restaurant is split over two floors, the rooftop alfresco space, which is playing the perfect host for a sundowner party or even a cosy evening meal and their section indoors on the floor below. Space has light wooden furniture with bright blue upholstery that makes it feel casual and inviting, perfect for a quick bite with friends or space to enjoy the free WiFi to get work done and indulge in a meal. Each table is decorated with its own little green terrarium, which is a welcome change from the single floral centrepiece on tables at most restaurants. There is a bar at both sections that serves their own unique blend of cocktails as well as cold-pressed juices and smoothies.

The restaurant owner Shraddha Bhansali and consulting chef Karishma Sakhrani have created a small but intriguing health-inspired menu. Gluten free salads, bountiful sharing boards, soups, sharing plates, flatbreads and small plates make up the menu. Not to forget some sandwiches and a couple of innovative desserts.

The Three Pepper Toastie is a creamy cheese bell pepper filled toasted sandwich that is the perfect snack if you are not in the mood for a full meal. It is the ideal accompaniment to their Moroccan Red Lentil Soup, which is thick and hearty. Soups tend to be so underrated, and this one is lush and thick without a single dollop of butter or cream.

Skip the sharing boards and instead opt for their small plates like the Polenta Cakes with blue cheese and garlic aioli or the Kale Crumble Tart, which is a symphony of kale, broccoli, sun dried tomatoes in the perfect tart crust.

Dessert is always a great way to round up a meal. The No More Depresso Mousse is a vegan version of a Hazelnut and Coffee Mousse. It is one of their signatures, and if you are a coffee or chocolate addict, then this is right up your alley. There is also plenty of coffee and tea options to help you wind up your meal.

Vegetarians can rejoice with a restaurant that goes beyond the obvious and non-vegetarians can be assured a satisfying meal without just having to eat green leaves.
