An Oriental tale to grace the shores of Goa back in 1982 – Goenchin could well be one of the first and still running restaurants in the heart of the city. A traditionalist’s delight with old favourites is still dished out since time. With a menu traversing across regions of China, Indonesia and Thailand it has got an eclectic mix. Start off with the satay barbecue prawns, marinated and cooked in coriander sauce spiced with ginger, garlic, scallions and green chillies. Keep space for the devil’s lamb cooked in chilli garlic sauce. Their signature combination that has been ruling the roost is the Chicken in Chilli Oyster Sauce and Clay Pot Rice. For desserts, try the date pancakes or the pisang goreng with ice cream. The latter in Indonesian means 'banana', has batter-fried bananas tossed in honey and served with ice cream. Or, lose your senses with the old favourite − Honey Noodles. A persuasive pause, one must appreciate before it is time to head back to the routine.
