Contemporary setting with wooden panels, creepers, classy photographs and comfortable seating; everything bound to make it the perfect chill-out zone. The menu is mostly European with an emphasis on finger foods and sharing plates to go with the spirits. Mini burger which comes in portions of three with lamb and mixed herbs is especially comforting with a pitcher of beer. A small selection of soup and salads are quite refreshing for the health conscious. A mezze platter for sharing or a herb crusted pan grilled chicken on skewers is especially interesting.
Sumptuous buffet spread. 5/5 for value for money. Tastewise 2/ 5 for the starters,3/5 for the pizzas, 5/5 for the honey and fig mustard kept on all the tables. 3/ 5 for the salads and main course 3/5 for the desserts (would have given 4/5 but for the miniscule portions). 3/5 for taste, overall 28/40. In order to maintain good quality and fresh ingredients they resorted to extremely small portions especially in the prawn cocktail - had one/ 2 extremely small prawns and the seafood croquettes which had a small piece of prawn or perhaps an extremely small piece of some other seafood and the desserts which were mini sized.
This place never fails to make me happy. Located inside the South City Mall , parking is assured. Place is going full because of the Christmas New Year crowd. All the more better. The service was as brisk, friendly and professional as always. The ambience is getting better by the day. Food and beverages are excellent. We had Grilled Prawn Skewers and Pan Seared Mushroom Tart for starters with Ginger Twist and Forbidden Punch , Chicken Barley Soup and House Special Menu - Roast Turkey with Cranberry juice and warm Focaccia bread. Every thing was just superb. Even the prices were very reasonable. We entered with expectations of hindsight and went back contended and desire to be back again, soon.
Late review! Cafe Mezzuna is a fine restaurant with a great atmosphere. The interiors are upbeat with lively music. There is a certain feel the moment you enter. The menu was quite exhaustive, but since we already had a heavy lunch, we kept our order minimal. We ordered Grilled Moroccan Lamb chops, in olive and cous cous, Mezzuna Chicken Caesar Salad and Quick tossed baby corn in smokey barbeque sauce. For drinks, we got Watermelon Basil crush and Wild Berries smoothie. The watermelon Basil crush was very refreshing and the smoothie wasn't bad too. But the Moroccan Lamb chops were a treat to the palette! Perfectly done, lightly tossed in sauce it was sheer ambrosia!! The accompanying cous cous was modest enough to not take the glory away from the chops! The Mezzuna Chicken Caesar Salad was delicious too, my only complain being the quantity which I feel was quite less. The babycorn was satisfactory! The staff are friendly. I would say if for nothing else, go and try their Lamb chops!
I visit this place often to have lunch. They have a very light 4-course menu which is reasonably priced and is delicious. All their items in the menu are simply wonderful. However, their staff and waiters are not trained to bring the next course when the customer finishes one course. Often there is a time lag and we have to bring their attention and ask for the next course. Also, they do not understand eating etiquette and never provide knives unless asked. They do not know that placing knife and fork together on the plate means you are done. I have to call them and tell them to take the plates away. If adequate training is given, this place will be one of the best experiences to eat in Kolkata.
I had the experience of having a buffet lunch on Sunday at the Sout City outset & the spread of the different variety of food items & taste was very good. The price was also reasonable & competitive compared to other restrauants in South City Mall. The ambience of the place was also very nice & the food was tasty.
