The Astor hotel that occupies a century-old Victorian building with a stately red brick facade is a familiar Kolkata landmark. The hotel has seen its ups and downs and changed hands a few times over the years, but its in-house restaurant’s reputation for turning out some of the best kababs in town has been a constant, more or less. The 30-year-old Kebab-e-Que has been given a makeover recently but it has managed to preserve its old world charm. The renovated interiors are chic but simple – arched windows, stained glass lampshades and brick-patterned accent walls add a vintage touch. The restaurant serves as mix of Indian, Chinese and Continental dishes. But go there for the kababs. Their bestsellers include the signature Gosht Barra Kebab, the fenugreek-flavoured murgh kastoori kabab and their trademark murgh chakori kabab that has a distinct flavour of anise.
Had dinner at Kebab-eque during a recent visit to Kolkata. The place has a good ambiance and is part of the Astor Hotel. We had beer and kebabs to start with - the service was quick and the kebabs were very tasty. The chicken biriyani cooked in Bengali way. We enjoyed the dinner thoroughly - the service can be better though !!
Four of us had dinner there. Had not been in quite a few years. We started off with their Signature dish of Raan (quite spicy leg of lamb). We then had some Luchi, Dhaba Di Daal, Murphy DAK Bang and Biryani. Also had a couple of bottles of Sula Dindori. We enjoyed the food very much. The service was friendly and timely. Will be back for sure.
Went here on the Bengali's New year day. They had special menu for the occasion and decorated the place accordingly. The food was good and was well assisted by the manager and his team. Service was very good and warm. The food tasted very good. Overall a very nice experience.
Visited this joint with my family in February 2018. The ambience of this place is pretty good. Food is very good too , especially the kebab platter and the caramel custard !!! Its an open area so there is a provision to smoke hookah as well!!! Main drawback of this place is the service!!! It takes too long to just order food. Other than that it is a great place to hang out!!! Will definitely recommend this place!!!!
I was highly disappointed with the food and the service. The no. of servers were way below the requirement and our table could not be serviced proper;y. Even after calling the servers they ignored us most of the time. Also the food was sad and not properly cooked. I will be visiting this restaurant again.
