The once popular Italian restaurant Shatranj Napoli reopens in a brand new avatar – this time as a Pan Asian restaurant and bar. The stylish décor has a rustic air about it, yet exudes a modish vibe. The Al-fresco seating area with a cheerful setting is definitely the highlight. Indoors too, the seating is spacious, but the wooden tables and chairs, seem a tad incongruous. The bar at the corner is well-stocked and the bartenders adept. The food offerings include Pan Asian fare. Plenty of options for vegetarians. 'Rock Corn Tempura', 'Gheesa Sweet Potato Roll', 'Cherry Plum Pork', are worth a try. The 'Curry Leaf Calamari' disappoints as it is overly greasy and chewy. The dim sums are varied and the fillings, delectable, but the translucent pleated starchy dough covering does not hold together. The 'Yellow Curry Prawn' dumpling stood out for me, in terms of innovation. The sushi and sashimi section are worth indulging in. For mains, try the 'Shaoxing Mustard Chicken' and pair it with the 'Lemongrass Scented Rice' or 'Teppan Soba Noodles'. The desserts are nothing to write home about. Service is quick and alert.
