Derby tries to encapsulate the palate of Mumbai through it’s eclectic, bric-a-brac menu. While you may tickle your palate with dishes like ‘pulled jackfruit bao’, the soothing presence of good old-fashioned ‘dal makhani’ does not go amiss. Aside from authentically prepared, Asian, European cuisines, North Indian dishes get a modern flair. Dabble in their spectacular bar menu before tucking into a variety of nibbles. Must try, kkanpung shrimp, Derby fried chicken, umami fries, chili fish bao, smoked mushroom galouti, chicken & chili oil wonton, poke and mutton seekh kebab. Just as the name suggests, ‘Derby’ is inspired by the racecourse, which is reflected subtly through the equestrian artwork scattered around the room, smooth exposed brick walls and blue & white pinstripe flooring. Memorabilia of the horseracing world are framed and mounted on the walls for display. Glam factor is added via chandeliers, green light installations and sleek furniture. Décor is upscale, trendy and modern, worth sending your Instagram feed on a tizzy. Some might find Derby a tad pricey although justified.
