What started out as a small humble restaurant in Crawford market has today boomed into one of the most sought after restaurants for North Indian food. From one little restaurant, Zaffran has expanded to a whopping 9 different outlets spread across the city. If you are in the mood for rich North Indian food then Zaffran is the perfect place for you. 'Galouti Kababs', 'Murgh Zaffrani Tikka', 'Nihari Ghost', 'Zaffran Butter Chicken' are all popular choices. The food is rich and heavy so do not expect a light meal here, it is all about celebrating good food. While they are known for their meat-based dishes, they have not forgotten the vegetarian diner and the menu caters well to them.
Went to this outlet on a Sunday for dinner because had a pleasant experience at the Bandra outlet. The servers, even though the place wasn't completely full seemed too busy and flustered. Ordered the mocktail Berrywala. On asking where is it since quite some time had passed, got to know that the order wasn't placed and that they don't even have it available 😒. Ordered the Non-Veg platter and Murgh Hariyali Tikka. The chicken was good but the rest was average. Ordered "Garlic Naan" with the main course, and on being served "Butter Garlic Naan" were rudely told that their Garlic Naan comes with butter by default and they didn't even offer to change it. Ordered Dal Makhni' which was too sweet and creamy. The Murgh Mussallam tasted like butter chicken. The Tawa Jhinga Masala was nice. Ordered Murgh Biryani which had too much "Kewda or Rose water" the scent of which was a turnoff. Overall, poor service and average food, not worth the money.
We visited on a weekday and found that there are 3 families including ourselves. But we were informed the place is normally crowded on weekends probably because it’s located inside a mall. The place is very good for large social gathering and the seating arrangements are optimum for that. You can also sit beside the windows which provide you a nice view of the middle of the mall. The staff was courteous & well mannered. We started with Afghani Murg Tikka which was very tasty & soft. We followed it up with Garlic NaN & Murg Anarkali. I read Anarkali was beautiful & I have to compliment that person his was equally beautiful not only from a presentation perspective but also taste. Loved the food thoroughly The only miss is that they don’t serve liquor. Hopefully soon
The only reason to go to this place was to have food which was available nearby after watching movie. I had no expectations about this place, but I was surprised by the interiors. Although it was empty but I couldn’t get the vibe, feel of the place. The ambience wasn’t up to the level. Also there’s some renovation going on inside the restaurant. This is for the management - you can’t renovate a restaurant and at the same time keep it open for public, it’s very unethical. Food was ok , not great just the usual taste you get in local restaurant. Also it’s very expensive plus the restaurant charge for service charges of 10%.
We went for lunch today, ordered paneer tikka masala and daal makhani. Since the portions were large and more than half of both dishes were left, we requested them to pack it for take away. However, when we opened the boxes at home, we realised that all the paneer cubes were removed and only some gravy was left in the box. Similarly, most of the daal was removed and water was added to the same to bring it to the same quantity. I would not be surprised if they are using the leftovers back again to serve other customers. Horrible behaviour from a so called fine dining restaurant which is not even inexpensive for any stretch of imagination. Never going back there again and recommending friends and family to do the same too.
It's an good and high rated place to have food but the quality of food is not so as expected as the thought was it would be the more of muglai taste but it didn't meet our expectations... Costly place to visit..
