The whole idea of North Indian dishes and preparations is that they are complex, full of flavours and very known for our palette. It is so relatable to eat just our plain jane Dal Makhni and some Ghee Rice that will nourish our mind and body, heart and soul. Such is the case with Zeera, the in-house fine-dine, North Indian restaurant at Conrad hotel. In fact, it is several notches higher, here’s how! The ambience of the place is very reminiscent of a very fancy place in London or maybe somewhere in Europe, only that this is in Pune. The large ceilings, chandeliers and the decked up tables look fantastic. The simplest menu of them all and not very fancy schmancy names are given to anything. The categorisation of appetizers through desserts is very nicely done and way too simple to decode. A lot of these fancy places forget about the simplicity and they go over the top by adding names and phrases we may never have heard of, that’s not the case here. Start your meal with 'Gallauti Kebab' that comes with a small portion of 'Ulte Tave ka Parantha' and 'Mint Chutney', so grab it from the table condiments. The mellow meat and the flavours of nawabs are very well matched. While the other non-veg appetizers are largely regular, the 'Malai Salmon Tikka' caught our attention and made it an experience worthwhile. The mains include some really interesting dishes which you may not have tried before and one of those include the 'Railway Lamb Curry' which is this quaint curry inspired by the Northern Railways and an added zing of the Kashmiri Chili. The 'Awadhi Murgh Korma' is the dish that is very popular here and takes you a level up. Order any of these curries with the 'Baghara Kushka' which is this Rice preparation staple to Telangana, they are cooked with ghee, coriander seeds and some tempering of over 7 Indian spices. This is a step ahead from your classical Jeera rice so make sure you give this dish a chance if Rice is on your list. Last, but never meant to last is the 'Calcutta Meetha Paan Ice cream' that is out of the box, probably the best avatar of a paan ice cream here. They finish 2 big scoops of ice cream with some jelly and paan masala.
