Memories of China underwent a massive overhaul a few years ago, and came back in a spanking new avatar. The new menu takes care of both popular Chinese dishes as well as some hidden treasures. Begin with the dim sums – the prawn har gow and the pak choy and mushroom are two you can try. From the Chef's specialty section, the spiny lobster deep-fried with preserved egg yolk is interesting. The lotus stem and water chestnuts cooked in a honey chilli sauce with sesame seeds is also a good starter if you like a little sweetness in your food.
Visited on a Saturday night .The place looked understaffed , staff was in a hurry due to the pressure of waiting at all tables my special requests weren't catered to . Specifically had an issue in ordering one main course. At first got my pork batter fried which I specifically requested not to be served in that form. Sent the dish back. Got a number of excuses by the manager , and then was served with something I really didn't want but didn't have an option because there was nothing else they could do. However even then got my dish in dry form where as I had asked for it in gravy form. For a name like the Taj , service was really pathetic. And I have never heard such excuses from a manager. And the seating was also inappropriate. There are a couple of tables placed between the kitchen approach and the billing counter. Makes it very noisy and is a bug put off. Good service would have really ensured a five star experience for me.
Whenever I feel like a light lunch, I go to Memories of China for their excellent steamed prawn har gau; the service is always impeccable.

Every visit to Memories of China at the Taj Vivanta has been a delightful one. My family and I are always greeted warmly by the staff and are made to feel very comfortable. The quality of food and taste is highly appreciated; and we have always had good recommendations by the chef. The courtesy of the staff and their gesture of making it special for their customers leaves me with a feeling of wanting more.
